Justin Switzer


As a Waterford Kettering senior, Switzer was Division 1 cross country champion (15:22.2) and seventh at Foot Locker Nationals.


In track, the University of Michigan-bound standout repeated as state titlist in the 1600 meters, and placed third in the mile at the Nike Outdoor Championships with a 4:08.13.

Geena Gall


The Grand Blanc graduate, also bound for U-M this fall, was Nike Indoor and Outdoor national queen in the 800 meters, running 2:05.05 at the latter meet, and D-1 state champ at that distance too.

She won her regional 1600 in a sizzling 4:45.42, and was state runnerup (to Clarkston's Jenny Morgan) in that event.

Dan Roberts

As a Vicksburg junior, Roberts was Division 2 cross country champion in a state-best 15:19.05, and placed 18th at Foot Locker Nationals.

In track, he repeated as D-2 state champ in the 1600 (4:09.45) and was fifth in the mile at Nike Outdoor Nationals (4:11.85).

Plans to spend his senior year training at altitude at Crested Butte Academy, Colorado.


Bekah Smeltzer




The Monroe Jefferson sophomore was D-2 cross country queen in a state-best 17:51.4, placed 20th at Foot Locker Nationals and had a big winter in indoor track.

After sweeping 1600 and 3200 outdoor crowns as a freshman, Smeltzer placed third in both runs this year.


Lex Williams


As a senior, led Dexter to its third-straight D-2 cross country title, placing fourth at state. Named Mr. Michigan Track and Field after pushing Roberts to the limit in the state 1600 before settling for second (4:09.98), then claiming the 3200 by 10 seconds in 9:07.88.

The U-M-bound Williams won the Midwest Meet of Champions 3200 a week later in a meet-record 8:57.16, then placed fourth in 2-mile at Nike Outdoor Nationals (8:56.06).


Marissa Treece


The diminutive Maple City Glen Lake sophomore ruled Division 4 distances, finishing girls state champ in cross country (18:20.7), and repeating as track titlist in the 1600 (4:56.15) and 3200 (11:07.84).

Both the latter were four seconds faster than D-4 records she set last year.


Milford / Red Tide Boys


Won their second-straight D-1 cross-country title with their top five finishing faster than 16:50.

Competing as Red Tide, Joel Van Derworp, freshman Andrew McKeachie, Mike Andersen and Dana Pitcock won the Nike Outdoor National 4x1-mile in 17:27.01.

Red Tide also won the distance medley in 10:05.53.



Josh Hofbauer


The senior led Harbor Springs, which stepped up from D-4 to D-3 this year, to its third-straight state team title in cross country, winning the individual finals in 15:48.1.


State champ in the D-3 3200 (9:34.55) as well.


John Black


The Birmingham Brother Rice senior finished second to Switzer in the D-1 cross country finals (15:35.75) and 21st at Foot Locker Nationals.


In track, the U-M-bound Black was state champ in the 3200 (9:14.59).



Janee Jones


Paced Goodrich to its second-straight D-3 cross country crown, winning the finals by 37 seconds in 18:07.95.


Capped her senior year helping the Martians claim the D-3 track championship as well, sweeping the 800 (2:16.18) and 1600 (4:58.19).


Jessica Armstrong


The Wayland sophomore gave her school its first state title in 80 years, bagging the D-2 girls 1600 (5:02.68). She doubled that total two hours later, winning the 3200 (11:08.62).


Armstrong's third-place 18:09.3 in the D-2 cross finals was the fifth- fastest girls effort in the state.
