Nick of Time: Makings of a Runner of the Year

During 2005 Nick Stanko amassed a state-high 90 points in Michigan Runner Series races, taking second in the March 20 Bay City St. Patrick's Day 8K (in 24:28), winning the April 16 Flushing Tax Trot 15K (48:04), claiming third in the June 25 Northville Fifth Third Bank Solstice Run 5K (15:20), and winning the July 4 Frankenmuth Volkslaufe 20K (1:05:19).

Also last year, Stanko won the non-series Wayne Red October Run 5K (in a course-record 15:08), and took 18th in the Papa John's 10-mile U.S. Championship (a personal-record 49:47).

Stanko ran for and is a graduate of Wyandotte Roosevelt High School and the University of Michigan. He resides in Ann Arbor with his wife, Theresa, and newborn daughter, Claire Therese. MR
