__/ SWEETHEART RUN, FLUSHING, FEBRUARY 15, 2003
The Sweetheart Run 10K couples relay is a fun way to celebrate the
Valentine season and burn off those extra chocolate calories. The race
shirt is a useful sweatshirt, in keeping with the winter season. The event
also includes a 5K run and walk and a 10K run and walk. The 10:00 am
start is at Flushing Central Elementary School See http://
qaultracemanagement.com for online registration and directions to the
start.
__/ BUMPER RUN REMINDS US TO RUN SAFELY, FEBRUARY 12,
2003
Don Richmond is lucky; he was hit by a truck during a run several years
ago and lived to tell about it. Don holds his free Bumper Run on the
anniversary of that collision each year to remind us to take safety
seriously. The 6.4 mile Bumper Run starts at 6:15 pm Wednesday,
February 12 at the Stoney Creek Metropark boat launch. Email
don.Richmond@juno.com for more information. Don's account of the
accident is available at http://www.michiganrunner.com/feb01/
miracle.html.
__/ TOP 10 SAFETY GUIDELINES

if you are in the woods during deer hunting season.
10. Run defensively.
__/ SENIOR SPRINTER CHASES SNOWSHOW WORLD RECORD
We met Zbigy Zlogicki at the Michigan Senior Olympics which are taking
place this week at Treetops Resort in Gaylord. Ziggy had just won
second place in the Cross Country Skiing Freestyle 10K, but he was
sorry we missed his performance the day before in the 100 meter
snowshoe race, in which his 17.5 time could qualify for a snowshoe
world record under the right timing and snow conditions. We did catch
his winning 200 meter performance, though. Zbigy also competes at the
summer Michigan Senior Olympic, where he competes on the track at
the 100 meter distance.
__/ DETROIT'S SUSAN G. KOMEN RACE FOR THE CURE(R), MOVES
TO JUNE 21
Michigan largest road race has a new date: June 21. The Susan G.
Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Detroit Race for the Cure(R),
presented locally by the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, is
Michigan's largest road race and one of the top fifteen races of over 100
Races for the Cure(R) in the United States and internationally. The Race
raises funds to support local breast cancer screening, education and
treatment programs as well as national research. The 2002 Race
brought 25,000 people to Detroit's midtown area and raised $925,000.
For more information on the Komen Detroit Race for the Cure(R), please
visit http://www.karmanos.org/raceforthecuredetroit or call (800)

__/ TODD WILLIAMS RETIRES
The Lets Run Website (http://letsrun.com) is reporting that Todd Williams
