"When you're tired and keep going, that's when you improve."

-- Arthur Lydiard, remarks made in Utica, Michigan, November 1, 2004. http://michiganrunner.tv/2004arthurlydiard/

__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: ROSEVILLE BIG BIRD - The day was warm for November, yet gusty winds blew around the leaves, the runners and our tripods. Watch Trent Briney and Paul Aufdemberge take the 10K down to the wire and find out what the two guys running in suits were thinking.

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD

-- WINDSOR, ONTARIO--Each time I've run the Detroit Free Press / Flagstar Bank Marathon or Half Marathon, I've promised myself to return to the Windsor waterfront to take a closer look at the sculptures, read the historical signs and just spend some more time in the beautiful waterfront park. Saturday, we did just that. We also stopped by the Running Factory store on Wyandotte where we chatted with Jeff Lindsay and Meredith Horne about the Running Factory's series of 7 races. Age group winners are eligible for really cool end-of-year prizes. The 2006 series will be posted in mid-December. http://runningfactory.com.

-- ROSEVILLE - We had the chance to meet a couple of Michigan Running legends at Sunday's Big Bird Run in Roseville. Both Joe Thornburg, 89, and Jim Lovat, 81, ran the 10K on Sunday and were happy to claim age-group awards in their 85+ and 80-84 age groups. Adrian Dent, age 17, had a lot of competition among high school cross country runners, but she bested them all to take the 10K title. Trent Briney won on two counts: he won the 10K and claimed a turkey in the popular post-race raffle.

__/ NEW TIMING COMPANY: EVERAL RACE MANAGEMENT - Greg and Jenni Everal are putting their timing and race management skills together in a new company, Everal Race Management. The Everals are race directors for the Grosse Ile Memorial Day 8K and Rollie Hopgood's Midtown Taylor 5K, among others. For more information call (734) 507- 1789 or email everalracemanagement@comcast.net.

__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES - ON THE ROADS

-- Paul Aufdemberge, 2nd, 32:15, Roseville Big Bird Run, with wind a major factor in the race.

-- Doug Goodhue, age 63, 38:14, Roseville Big Bird Run - age graded time is 30:34.

-- Gerard Malaczynski, age 63, 38:27, Roseville Big Bird Run, despite being part of a group fall early in the race.

__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES - COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY

-- Michigan Women's Cross Country - First, NCAA Division I Great Lakes Regional, Saturday, November 12, Bloomington, Indiana, automatic ticket to Nationals. 3 runners in top ten: Kohlmeier, Walter, Webster

-- Eastern Michigan Men's Cross Country - Fifth, NCAA Division I Great Lakes Regional, Saturday, November 12, Bloomington, Indiana. The Eagles won an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Cross Country Nationals.
