__/ KEWEENAW TRAILS RUNNING FESTIVAL, COPPER HARBOR, SATURDAY & SUNDAY, JULY 8-9 - They are coming from Michigan, Minnesota, Kentucky, Texas, Illinois, Georgia, Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, and Colorado. Jeff Crumbaugh dreamed up this two day festival to give runners an "opportunity to experience some of the most spectacular and challenging trails in Michigan's Upper Peninsula." Register for the 10K and the Hill Climb on Saturday and/or the 25K on Sunday. The Kids have a run, too. The drive to the Keweenaw Peninsula is part of the adventure.

__/ BAUMAN'S RUNNING CENTER MOVES NEXT DOOR TO BIGGER DIGS - Mark Bauman has moved to a roomier store right next to the one he started in 1974 on West Hill in Flint. Bauman, a legendary businessman not only in Flint, but known to runners all over this state, is opening just in time to get the tremendous Crim rush of business at his store. Bauman, has run every Crim race and even has a longer streak at the Boston Marathon. Stop by and see him and his new store on your way to and from Flint.

__/ MICHIGANDERS ARE COMPETING AT NACAC U23 CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - 500 athletes from 28 countries in North America, Central America and the Carribbean are in Santo Domingo July 5-7 to compete in the fourth edition of the NACAC Championships. Athletes with Michigan ties are

--Corey Nowitzke (Monroe, Mich., Ypsilanti, Mich.) - Eastern Michigan

--Brad Gebauer (Bad Axe, Mich., East Lansing, Mich.) - Michigan State

--Mike Whitehead (Norristown, Pa., Ann Arbor, Mich.) - Michigan.

--HANNIBAL, MISSOURI--Most of our extended family converged on our hometown, Hannibal, Missouri for July 4th festivities as part of "Tom Sawyer Days". Where else can one see frog-jumping, fence-painting, and the 27th edition of the Mississipi Mud Volleyball tournament? The 11 year-old Hannibal Cannibal drew over 700 runners plus an additional group of walkers. Both 5K and 10K are now USATF certified and chip-timed by Fleet Feet Sports St. Louis. Fleet Feet St. Louis's David Spetnagel is a University of Michigan grad. Nephew Elliot Meyer, a Tom Sawyer finalist, helped hand out awards. Our New Orleans family reported that mail delivery is still recovering, but that the first magazine that made it through was the May/June 2006 Michigan Runner-- 9 months after Katrina hit.
