__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: KEITH AND KEVIN HANSON, PART II -
Keith and Kevin Hanson's Olympic
Development Program successes are well-known in running
circles; however, a front-page Wall Street Journal story June 10,
2003 spread their story wider. Then, on July 30, Brooks Sports
announced a five-year sponsorship which will help the brothers extend
their program to women athletes. Jennie McCafferty talks with Keith and
Kevin about Michigan weather and other elements of their program.
__/ BILL'S RUN RICHMOND RUN TO BE RESCHEDULED - Bill's Run
Richmond Run, planned for August 16, was one casualty of last
weekend's blackout. The Parks and Recreation Department of the City
of Richmond cancelled the Sixth Annual Bill's Run Richmond. They
hope to reschedule the race in October. Check the city's Website at http:/
/www.ci.richmond.mi.us. We'll announce the new date also.
__/ JOHN ROGUCKI MEMORIAL KENSINGTON CHALLENGE ADDS
NEW OVERALL CATEGORY - The John Rogucki Memorial Kensington
Challenge on September 20 has a new race award structure to
announce. In addition to Open and Masters "Overall" categories, the
JRMKC has added a Senior "Overall" category for those males and
females who are 60+. For more information see http://aatrackclub.org/
Events/Events-Kensington.htm.
__/ MILFORD LABOR DAY 30K NEEDS VOLUNTEERS - Doug
Klingensmith needs more volunteers to help with a bigger turnout for the
3rd Milford Labor Day 30K. Those of you who are running the 30K can
help with race-day registration and numbers. Friends and family can be
course marshals and aid-station volunteers. Contact Doug at (248) 685-
7580 or dklingens1@aol.com.
__/ PART VII: DOUG KURTIS MARATHON TRAINING SERIES:
PREVENTING INJURIES - Doug has kept injuries at bay during his long
running career. In this segment, Doug talks about what he does to
prevent injuries. The twelve part series is sponsored by Running Fit
(http://runningfit.com). Doug's training charts are suitable for First Timers,
Intermediate, Advanced, and Ace marathoners. http:// michiganrunner.tv/
2003marathon/.
__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK - "I still get goose bumps when thinking
about representing our country in athletic competition."
-- Clint Verran, Runner's World Online. Clint will be running the
marathon at the IAAF World Championships in Paris, August 30.
__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER RACE SERIES - Race series events are open
to Michigan residents; you do not have to register with the Michigan
Runner to participate. Each runner's top 10 results will count at the
conclusion of the series. Another way to think about this is that each
runner's worst results will be thrown out. Missing one race will not hurt
anyone's standings. For results and standings see http://
michiganrunner.net/news/raceseries03_standings.html
