temperatures bring
more races than any other month. Here are a few of our favorites

the dozens available this weekend:
-- GROSSE POINTE RUN, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 - Lake St. Clair
stars in
this gorgeous waterfront event. Events, including a 10K run, a 5K run
or walk and a 1 mile fun run, begin at 8:30 1m. Grosse Pointe Farms

-- JOHN ROGUCKI MEMORIAL KENSINGTON CHALLENGE,
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 -
The rolling hills of Kensington Park provide scenery and a test of
hill-running skills at 15K and 5K distances. A 1/2 mile fun run begins at
8:30 am; the 5K run and walk go off at 9:00 and the 15K follows at 9:15
am. Awards are in Open, Masters, and Grand Masters divisions. Ann
Arbor
Track Club hosts; he action begins at Martindale Beach. Check Doug

-- MT. BALDHEAD CHALLENGE, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 - This is
one of
those races you'll never forget and the 282 steps up Mt. Baldhead are
only
part of the interesting 15K. If you prefer shorter and flatter, try the
certified, flat and fast 5K. This is a great time to visit the
beautiful Saugatuck-Douglas neighborhood. Be sure to save time for
the shops,
art and restaurants. Events begin 9:00 am, downtown Saugatuck.

-- NATIONAL KIDNEY FOUNDATION OF MICHIGAN 5K, SATURDAY,
SEPTEMBER 16 -
This event features a great cause (the National Kidney Foundation of
Michigan) and a wonderful venue (Detroit's Belle Isle). Step back in
time at the Belle Isle Casino for the 5K run or the 3 mile walk, 9:00 am.

FOR 2006 -
Patricia Ball and her team are always working to improve events for
runners.
Here are a few changes you can expect for the October 29, 2006 events:
- Split starts for the marathon and half marathon/relay teams.
- A corral system for lining up.
- Marathon and half marathon participants will receive technical
shirts.
- Every participant in every event will receive a newly designed and
awesome finisher's medal.
All events (marathon, half marathon run and walk, team relays and 5k)
finish near the 50-yard line of Ford Field, home of the 2006 Super Bowl
XL. The course includes Corktown, Mexicantown, the Ambassador
Bridge, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel (the only underwater international
mile in the world), Windsor Riverfront, Greektown, Indian Village and

ANNOUNCES ELITE FIELD --
Simon Bor will return to defend his 2005 title, but it won't be easy-- the
men's elite field includes more than two dozen sub 2:20 marathoners.
2005 winner and Canadian marathon champion Lioudmila
Kortchaguina is out with a minor injury, so the women's race will have a
new champion. Among the contenders is 2005 Detroit Free Press /
Flagstar Bank winner Victoria Klimina. Ed Whitlock, age 75, is looking
