No, CRIM doesn't stand for Celebrate Running In Michigan. But it could. Flint's famous Festival of Races, named for former state legislator and
still-runner Bobby Crim, turns 28 Aug. 28. It's a party runners from Mich.
will not want to miss.
Crim's signature 10-mile road race drew more than 6,600 entrants last
year, including U.S. and world elites chasing more than $42,000 in prize
money. The course -- which starts and ends on the bricks of Saginaw
Street downtown, and traverses the Bradley hills -- is a classic.
But Crim aspires to be more -- and is. There's a three-day race expo,
race and fun walks, Teddy Bear Trot, 8K, 5K and mile runs; live
entertainment, food and beverage tents and mini-carnival near the start/
finish. Crim's school-outreach and community fitness programs extend
year-round ... all set in the birthplace of General Motors.
The world's largest corporation may have closed plants here, but seeds
of energy remain in Flint's vibrant people: volunteering, cheering and
taking part in a Celebration of Running In Michigan without peer.
Crim's "formal" nickname and acronmym -- Coolest Race In Michigan
-- comes with a double edge: streets turn hot as the August sun climbs.
Look for spray-downs at the finish, along with fellowship, friends and
fun.
Another turn of the wheel for Crim will have just begun.
