Toronto: Hotbed of Running
Art McCafferty September 2004 Michigan Runner
Toronto is becoming a hotbed of running as the original Toronto
Marathon celebrates its 10th anniversary on Sunday, October 17, while
the up-an-comer, the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon will have
its second running on Sunday, September 26. But if that's not enough,
there is more: the Mississauga Marathon will take place on May 15,
2005. Over 5,000 runners participate in their inaugural run earlier this
year. Actually, Toronto is the hotbed of many things. As Canada's greatest
city, Toronto has a sweeping skyline, a plethora of restaurants, a great
theater district, terrific people and some terrific marathon courses that
will reward your eyes for the work your feet are doing. As the marathon boom continues, many Michigan runners are putting
other marathon notches on their belts. I ran the Toronto Marathon many
years ago and established my PR. The Michigan Runner has also
covered the Montreal Marathon, the Forest City Marathon in London, the
Sudbury Marathon, as well as many other Canadian races. We will be providing television coverage of both the Scotiabank Toronto
Waterfront Marathon and the Toronto Marathon this year. We hope to
see you there and if you see us, give us a wave. MR
