================================================= DOUG GOODHUE & SHARON DOLAN HAVE A VERY GOOD YEAR ================================================= We congratulate Doug Goodhue and Sharon Dolan who have been named the top Masters runners in the 65-69 age group for 2007 by Running Times magazine. Mike Tymm writes a nice half-page piece on Doug, which, in an odd bit of positioning is 30 pages removed from the Masters rankings article. Running Times cites Doug's 18:15 at the Red October Run as his best performance of the year.

Ranked and honorably mentioned (HM) Michigan age group runners are 40-44 Men 3) Tracy Lokken (2:29:00 Twin Cities) HM Paul Aufdemberge

======================================================= ================= FIFTH THIRD RIVER BANK RUN OFFERS FREE TRAINING RUN/ CLINIC, SAT. FEB. 2 ======================================================= ================= Join area runners and coaches from http://runGazelle.com for a training run on Saturday, February 2 at the David D. Hunting Branch YMCA (475 Lake Michigan Drive). Meet in the Community Room on the ground floor at 8:00 a.m. before heading outside to run with a group (several distances available). Afterward, return to the YMCA for refreshments and networking opportunities with the staff from Metro Health Sports Medicine, Harrison Chiropractic and Blue Care Network (body composition analysis). No pre-registration required! -- Fifth Third River Bank Run news release Web: http://53riverbankrun.com/

======================================================= == FRIENDLY MASSEY MARATHON TO ADD A 10K TO ITS MIX OF RUNS ======================================================= == Elizabeth Gamble, RD of the Friendly Massey Marathon and Spanish River Half Marathon in Massey, Ontario, indicated they will be adding a 10K to the running mix for their 32nd race. A portion of this race's history can be found at http://ouser.org/history/norm_patenaude.htm, a site that speaks to the impact of ultramarathoner and event visionary Norm Patenaude. He was tragically killed in a bike/car accident while in the process of recovering from another injury from an accident the year before. Web: http://www.friendlymasseymarathon.com/

=============================================== MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: INTERVIEW WITH GORDON MINTY =============================================== In November 2006, Michigan Runner TV caught up with Gordon MInty, Detroit Free Press Marathon winner (1979) and many-time All-American for Eastern Michigan. Minty, a professor at Indiana State University now, was busy helping to host the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. Web: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXWE7MeBht8

======================================================= ============== MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: NCAA DIVISION I CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, 2006 ======================================================= ============== The 2006 NCAA Division I Cross Championships at the muddy Laverne Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana signaled a couple of successful running careers to come. Watch the races, featuring some great videography from Harry Lindback, and catch our interviews with men's winner Josh Rohatinsky, Eastern Michigan's Corey Nowitzke and the 3rd place Michigan Wolverine women. ======================================================= === SPIRIT OF THE MARATHON, THE MOVIE, WILL REPEAT FEBRUARY 21 ======================================================= === We give two thumbs-up for the Spirit of the Marathon movie. Not only was it fun to watch a race that somebody else filmed, we thought the overhead shots of the Chicago Marathon start, the score, and the races of both elite and citizen runners made for a good movie. For a guy who got no mention in the credits, Clint Verran got a lot of face time pacing Deena Kastor. Fewer theaters will be showing the encore. Here's the Michigan, northwest Ohio and northeast Indiana list: -Showcase - Ann Arbor -AMC Livonia 10 -Commerce Township 14 - Walled Lake -Flint West Showcase Cinemas -Maumee Showcase Cinemas - Maumee, OH -Movies 14 - Mishiwaka, IN

============================== GLSP BEGINS TAPING SHOWS IN HD ============================== The GLSP Television Network has begun the process of converting its camera equipment and editing programs to accommodate the HD format. Our first such presentation was this week's internet Advisor show. "High-definition television (HDTV) yields a better-quality image than does standard television, because it has a greater number of lines of resolution. Because the signal is a digital signal, it produces neither a snowy nor pale image from a weak signal or signal interference effects, such as herringbone patterns, or vertical rolling. Image colours are more realistic, because of the greater bandwidth. The visual information is some 2-5 times sharper because the gaps between the scan lines are narrower or invisible to the naked eye." 1

The new format will allow the videos we create and put online or covert to DVDs, the ability to be played on the wider screen formats that are becoming the norm in viewer homes.

======================================================= ============ HUCKABEE RUNNING BOSTON (HIS FIFTH MARATHON) WITH TEAM HOYT CHARITY ======================================================= ============ The "I'm-too-busy" excuse looks a little lame now" "BOSTON, Mass. - Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has officially entered the 2008 Boston Marathon, the Boston Athletic Association announced. Huckabee has been training while on the campaign trail. He will join Team Hoyt, a local charity which strives to integrate the physically challenged into everyday life. Dick and Rick Hoyt are a father and son team that has completed 25 Boston Marathons, with Dick running and Rick in his wheelchair.

In 2003, while serving as Governor of Arkansas, Huckabee was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. As a result he began running and gradually lost 110 pounds. In 2005 he completed the Little Rock Marathon in 4:38:32, a performance which earned him the honor of USATF Athlete of the Week. Since then Huckabee has completed three additional marathons: the 2005 Marine Corps Marathon, the 2006 Little Rock Marathon, and the 2006 ING New York City Marathon. His personal best, coming in 2006 at Little Rock, is now 4 hours, 26 minutes, 05 seconds.

The 112th Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008, Patriots' Day in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. -- Boston Athletic Association Press Release
