============================================== ERIN GO BRAGH -- MICHIGAN IRSH RACES GO BRAGH ============================================== The race season always seems to kick off with these great St. Patrick Day runs we have throughout the state. In mid March, most of the snow has gone and many fair weather runners are out in about, getting in shape and promising that they will knock off a few pounds that have gathered since their last marathon or long run of last season.

Michigan has a plethora of great St. Patrick Races. The season kicks off with the Shillelagh Four Mile in Flushing. This is the home base of the Riverbend Striders and John and Anne Gault. On March 15th and 16th , the stop is at Bay City, where the Bay Area Runners Club puts on the St. Patrick's Day Leprechaun Races on Saturday and follows it up with the St. Patricks Day Races on Sunday. ======================================================= ====== GREAT INDDOR TRACK THIS WEEKEND IN YPSILANTI AND MT. PLEASANT ======================================================= ====== Eastern Michigan Men's and Women's Indoor Track teams host the Mid- American Conference Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday, Feb. 29 - March 1. Events will kick off at 10:00 am each day at the Bob Parks Track, Bowen Fieldhouse. Eastern Michigan's men took home the trophy eleven of the last twelve years.

Michigan's talented High School track and field athletes will be at Central Michigan's Indoor Track on Friday night, Febraury 29. Field events begin at 4:00 pm; track events begin at 5:00 pm. ======================================================= ==================== CANDICE DAVIS AND LELA NELSON NAMED TO US TEAM FOR IAAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS ======================================================= ==================== The US team for the IAAF World Indoor Track & Field championships in Valencia, Spain will be especially strong in the field events and the hurdles. Among the 51 athletes named to the team are two young Michigan athletes.

Lela Nelson (Detroit Mumford/ Eastern Michigan/ Nike) will compete in the long jump. Nelson's specialty, combined events, is not contested; however, men do have a heptathlon. (Can anyone tell us why?) Nelson is currently living and training in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Candice Davis (Ann Arbor Pioneer/ University of Southern California) will compete in the 60 meter hurdles.
