__/ SHILLELAGH FOUR MILE STARTS AT NOON SATURDAY, FLUSHING Among the St. Patrick's week race traditions is the Shillelagh Four Mile in Flushing. Start at Flushing Junior High School at Noon, work up an appetite, finish on a downhill stretch in downtown Flushing and have a beer in honor of the Irish at the finish line. Kids' Leprechaun Lope starts at 1:30 and those who register early will get a unique Shillelagh shirt. Riverbend Striders host this event which is part of Bauman's Winter Series. __/ AROUND THE BAY 30K, HAMILTON, ONTARIO, MARCH 20 We're heading to Hamilton, Ontario for one of my favorite races, the Around the Bay 30K in Hamilton, Ontario. The oldest road race in North America is celebrating its 111th running this year. This race is a great way to get in a marathon-training long run on a fun course with aid stations and a great experience. Three-time Michigan Runner of the Year Paul Aufdemberge won the "Bay" in 1999 and several "Bay" winners have gone on to win the Boston Marathon. One of the fun things about the course is being able to see your route around Hamilton Harbour on Ontario maps. Watch for our video on the "Bay" next week. http://aroundthebayroadrace.com

__/ CHURCHILL'S 38TH HALF MARATHON, SUNDAY, MARCH 20 Northwest Ohio's oldest continuing road race typically attracts a fast crowd for this mostly flat, fast half-marathon on local roads and the Wabash Cannonball Trail near Toledo. A contingent from the North Kent Running Club near Grand Rapids usually shows up and takes age-group awards. 1:00 pm start is at Monclova Community Center, 8115 Monclova Road, Monclova, Ohio. __/ RUNNING BOSTON? BAUMAN'S HAS OFFICIAL CLOTHING & CLUB BUS TO HOPKINTON Mark Bauman will be running his 35th Boston Marathon in April and he also takes care of Michigan marathoners. Bauman's Running and Walking Shop on 1453 W. Hill Road in Flint is carrying official 2005 Boston Marathon Clothing by adidas, including mens and womens jackets, shorts, tanks and t-shirts. __/ CRIM FESTIVAL OF RACES WELCOMES NEW LEADERS We had a chance to meet the folks who are succeeding Sherlynn Everly at the Crim Festival of Races. Deb Kiertzner is taking over as Race Director and Gerry Myers will be moving back to Michigan from California to assume the position of CEO. At a welcoming reception in Flint last week, Crim Board of Directors President Mark Yonan announced big plans for the future of the Crim Festival of Races and is excited about the ability of Kiertzner and Myers to follow through.
