__/ DICK BEARDSLEY AT HANSONS RUNNING SHOP, ROYAL OAK, APRIL 5 - Although Dick Beardsley's competitive running career ended in 1986, Dick still has the 4th fastest U.S. men's marathon time in history. Best known for his 1982 Boston Marathon "Duel in the Sun" with Alberto Salazar, Dick is also a two-time Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier. Dick is also a great story-teller and he has amazing stories to tell from his running career and his encounters with farm machinery, trucks, and other evils. Dick will kick off the Hansons Distance Project Running with the Legends program to be held once each month on Thursday evenings. __/ ERIC GREEN GETS TWO TITLES AT MASTERS INDOOR MEET - Thank-you, Fred Vanhala, Coach of the Front Line Racing Team for this news: "Front Line Racing Team's Eric Green won two titles at the USATF Masters Indoor Meet in Boston over the weekend. Eric (age group 35-39) won the 3000 on Friday in a time of 9:00.06. He came back on Saturday to win the mile in a time of 4:31.95. As the USATF has just recently started tracking indoor track records for this age bracket, and they don't currently show a record for this event as yet, it's reasonable to think this could end up as the initial Male Age 35-39 3000 meter record."

__/ BOSTON MARATHON SET TO BEGIN TWO HOURS EARLIER - Boston, Mass. - As was announced in August 2006, the Boston Athletic Association, in cooperation with the eight cities and towns along the Boston Marathon course, will begin the 111th Boston Marathon, Monday, April 16, 2007, at 10:00 a.m.

The B.A.A. has been discussing this concept with officials of each of the cities and towns since 2005 and has received support from representatives of each, as well as those from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Mobility Impaired Program, Wheelchair and Elite Women's divisions will continue to start earlier. The race will also continue to utilize a two- wave start, with the first wave beginning at 10 a.m.

The legendary Boston Marathon course follows a point-to-point route from rural Hopkinton into Ashland, then Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, Brookline and, finally, Boston. The inaugural Boston Marathon, held in 1897, began at 12:19 p.m., and the race traditionally began at noon in the 109 races that followed.

Schedule for the start of the 2007 Boston Marathon: Mobility Impaired Division (approximately 10 athletes): 9:00 a.m. Wheelchair Division (approximately 50 athletes): 9:25 a.m. Elite Women (approximately 80 athletes): 9:35 a.m. Wave One (approximately 10,000 athletes): 10:00 a.m. Wave Two (approximately 13,500 athletes): 10:30 a.m.

This year the dinner will be held at the host hotel: Hilton London. Duty Calls, a band of active London police officers, will also entertain at the dinner with a wide range of music such as blues, soul, R&B and rock. Get tickets early as these are sure to go quickly. __/ TOMMY LONGBOAT TO BE HONORED AT BOSTON - One hundred years after Tom Longboat won the 11th Boston Marathon, four members of his family will return to Boston. In his lone appearance in Boston, Longboat - an Onandaga Indian from Hamilton, Ontario - set a course record of 2:24:24, defeating, among others, 1908 Olympic champion John J. Hayes. Longboat's daughter, Phyllis Winnie, will be accompanied by his grandson Brian Winnie, and great granddaughters Nichole DiGiacomo and Jessica Winnie. Additionally, members of Team Longboat, a Canadian running club, will be running this year's Boston Marathon in Longboat's honor. -- BAA press release

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD: HAMILTON, ONTARIO - In a weekend of many noteworthy events, we'll single out Jacqueline Gareau's remarks at the Dofasco Pasta Dinner as the highlight. Jacqueline enthralled the dinner crowd with her description of her unique experience winning the 1980 Boston marathon. This was the one where the cheater got the race-day glory. We also enjoyed visiting the Hamilton waterfront and the Albion Falls, seeing a new course record, watching Paul Aufdemberge win the master's title, and having a beer at the outside tables in Hess Village Friday afternoon.
