__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK - "I finished six seconds faster than I
wanted to."
-- Kayla Caseletto, age 10, who finished the 5K in a PR 22:56.
Kayla's intended pace was
23:02. Dad, Peter Casaletto won the 5K in 16:20.
__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: HILLSDALE "GINA" RELAYS - Four new
shows are posted:
Throws, hurdles, Heptathlon / Decathlon and relays (4x100,
4x400 and 4x800). Its fun to
see the differences in speed among the different relays and to
watch the winners of the
traditional closing event: the 4 x 400 relays.

__/ JUNE VARIETY IS THE SPICE: SPEED, TRAIL, ISLAND AND
TRIATHLON RACES
-- BRIAN DIEMER AMERIKAM 5K, CUTLERVILLE, SATURDAY, JUNE 9 -
Michigan and Midwest elites
flock to this race because the competition is tops and the
$6,500 prize purse is good,
too. Olympian Brian Diemer's race kicks off the Cutlerville
Community Days parade,
festival, concert and fireworks following. The 5K Run and Walk
begins at 9:00 am; kids
have a Junior Jog. The race and the Friday night pasta dinner
benefit Safe Haven
Ministries.

-- FLIRT WITH DIRT, NOVI, SATURDAY, JUNE 9 - If you've never
tried a trail race, this one
is for you. There really is a six mile single track trail in
Novi's Lakeshore Park. 5K
and 10K begin at 7:30 am. Downhill start and uphill finish will
be fun for those uphill
show-offs. You can also take the poll (and see the results) on
the race Website:
"Does mud make a person more or less attractive?"
http://www.runflirt.com
-- MACKINAC ISLAND LILAC FESTIVAL 10K RUN AND WALK - Mackinac
Island is reason enough to
run or walk the Lilac Festival 10K, but the race-- all on paved
roads-- also takes you to
the center of the Island. Look for rare and beautiful trilium
flowers in the woods. Run
and walks begin at 9:30 at Windemere Point west of the ferry
docks. The Lil' Lilac Kids
race is near the Mackinac Island School.

-- ANN ARBOR TRIATHLON / DUATHLON, PINCKNEY, SUNDAY, JUNE 10 -
Jim and Joyce Donaldson of
Elite Endeavors are known for the quality and fun of the
multisport events they put on.
They are also known for creating terrific experiences for
multisport beginners. You can
choose a triathlon (1/2MS/ 14MB/ 5MR) of the duathlon (2MR,
14MB, 5MR). Sign-up early and
before race day as the field is limited and there is no race

__/ THE FINISH LINE IS COMING FOR THE ZANGLIN DOWNRIVER RUN -
"(Trenton, Michigan
(5/31/07) -- Was it the first time you entered a foot race?
Did it inspire you to walk or
run? Was it the place you met your significant other? Did you
consider it your official
kick-off to summer? Was it the place you did your personal
best time? Or maybe every
time a certain song came on the radio it took you back to the
best street party in
Downriver? The answer to all these might just be the Zanglin
Downriver Run.
Sad but true, this will be the final year for the Zanglin
Downriver Run which will be
celebrating it's 25th anniversary on Friday night, June 15 in
Downtown Trenton. Race
Chairman Jim Zanglin and his race committee are retiring from
this labor of love they did
for the past 15 years. Through its beginning as the Downriver
Treadmill Run, this event
promotes exercise and shows just how much fun it can be. There
have been many people who
started out as spectators and began training for the following
year's event.
Race organizers are encouraging past entrants to come bid a
fond farewell to this Trenton
tradition as we walk or run the beautiful streets of Trenton
and Elizabeth Park, and then
celebrate with the best street party in Downriver.
Cash awards will also be given as follows: Male and Female:
1st-$100, 2nd-$50 and 3rd
place-$25. Master division awards (40 and up) are as follows:
1st-$50 and 2nd place $25.
So, bring the family, corral your old high school buddies,
gather your former running
team, bring back the old walking/running group or just come to
make it one great party to
commemorate all the memorable times that took place in Downtown
Trenton as the Z-Run hits
its own finish line."

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD - ALMA - The Alma Highland Festival 5K is
an essential part of the
Alma Highland Festival and Games. Race Director Craig Tubbs is
making a difference in
getting out the word for this terrific event. Runners and
walkers get crowd support of
20,000, then get to watch one of the great festival parades.
There's a lot to enjoy at the
festival, too, as the guys in kilts and attendant regalia take
center stage. Video of the
festival's sights and sounds is coming. Watch for the big guys--
wearing kilts-- in the
caber toss.
__/ MRN ON THE ROAD - ELKHART, INDIANA - The Great Race Sports
Festival is in it's 27th
year and there is always a new wrinke: this year it was
bicycles against in-line skaters.
Distance matters as skaters easily get out first, then
bicycles build up speed over
distance. A group of the Southfield-based Stone Steppers,
along with coach Mike Stone,
were easy to spot in their bright blue singlets and shorts.
Stay tuned for video of the
5K, 10K, half marathon, in-line skate, bicycle criterium and
more.
