__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: ARTFUL DODGER IN ST. CLAIR - Addis
Habetewold, Jerome Recker, and
Jon Davidson mix it up at Artful Dodger Riverview Run in St
Clair. Fast course, fast
athletes and a fast downhill finish reward those who took that
same hill up in the

__/ NATIONAL CHERRY FESTIVAL, TRAVERSE CITY, SATURDAY, JULY 14 -
The Cherry Festival's 15K
is one of a Michigan runner's rites of passage. Conquering
Mount McKinley requires an
uphill strategy as well as a plan for the dramatic downhill.
The 5K generally turns out a
really fast crowd. Cherries at the finish line, the Cherry
Royale parade immediately
after the race, Grand Traverse Bay, evening fireworks, Running
Fit photos of everyone--
these are just some of the reasons you'll want to be there.

__/ ZEMBA, HARTMANN, GALLO, FERGUSON, NIETO, TAORMINA WILL
COMPETE FOR US AT PAN AM GAMES
- The 15th Pan American Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil, from 13 July to 29
July with estimated 5,500 athletes from 42 countries in 28
sports. The Pan American Games
are a multi-sport event, held every four years between
competitors from all nations of the
Americas.
-- MANDI ZEMBA, Menominee/ Grand Valley State University/ New
Balance,
earned her place on the team when she reached the finals in the
5,000 meter race at the
USA Track & Field Championships. Zemba competes in the 5,000
meter race July 27.
-- JASON HARTMANN, Rockford/ Oregon/ Nike - The Rockford star--

distance races. Hartmann

great college career in the middle distances. She's really come
into her own since she

be on the medal stand if
she has a good day.
-- KEN FERGUSON, Mumford-Detroit/ South Carolina/ adidas -

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD - FRANKENMUTH - It's hard to beat
Frankenmuth's July 4 celebration.
Lots of happy kids ran around Tuesday evening with light
sticks, glowing wheels and other
blinking things that are the sparklers of today. Light drizzle
made for great running
weather on the 4th itself. Race director Lucas Hart has been
around the Volkslaufe
literally since he was born. According to the Saginaw News,
Lucas' dad, Bill Hart,
directed the first several Volkslaufe races and his mom,
Janette, was in charge of the
finish line a week before Lucas was born. Congratulations to
the Frankenmuth Jaycees for
carrying on a great Michigan tradition.
__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES - ROAD RACING

were alert for Doug Goodhue's
attempt on the 65-69 American age-group record for the 20K
(1:25:02, set by Paul Reese in
1987). Well, Doug succeeded in being faster with his 1:22:49,
but fellow grand master
Gerard Malaczynski beat him to it with a 1:21:46.
-- Peachtree Road Race, Atlanta, Georgia, July 4 - America's
largest 10K served as the
USATF Men's 10K Championship.
