__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: WATERLOO TRIATHLON / DUATHLON - What a
setting! Portage Lake at Waterloo Recreation Area in Grass Lake
was the scene for Elite Endeavors' Waterloo Triathlon /
Duathlon on July 15. Participants couldn't have asked for a
better day; weather was low 50's at the start. Check out
terrific performances and the setting for the sprint distance
triathlon and accompanying duathlon.

__/ FEAST ON END-OF-JULY RACES:
__ ALDEN RUN, ALDEN/TORCH LAKE, SATURDAY, JULY 28, 2007 - You
won't find flat and fast in Northwest Lower Michigan, but you
will find non-stop scenery amid the hills and lakes. Arguably
the prettiest is Torch Lake, the scene of the Alden Run's 10K
run and 5K run and walk. Events begin at 9:00 am in Alden.
Call or email Jan Cummings for more information: (231) 331-6620
or email: jalynpineview@yahoo.com
__ BEST SOURCE CREDIT UNION HEART OF THE HILLS, WEST
BLOOMFIELD, SATURDAY, JULY 28, 2007 - One of Southeastern
Michigan's most popular races disappeared for a while and we
were delighted when Best Source Credit Union brought back the
Heart of the Hills in 2006. It's back again this year with
certified 10K and 5K distances which will take you on a scenic
tour of Bloomfield Hills. Cash prizes go to the top open and
masters runners. Start is 8:00 am, Andover High School, 4200
Andover Road, on the south side of Long Lake Road.

__ GRAND ISLAND TRAIL MARATHON & 10K, MUNISING, SATURDAY, JULY
28, 2007 - Race director Jeff Crumbaugh has grand ideas for
races and the Grand Island Trail Marathon is one of them. The
marathon is full; however, 30 spots were avaialble in the 10K
as of July 14. Watch the video and make your plans for next
year for this marathon on the beautiful Grand Island in Lake
Superior. Reach Grand Island by ferry from Munising in
Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Grand Island Trail Marathon,
along with the Keweenaw Trail Running Festival and the Tahqua
Trail Run on August 25 earn points in the Trail Magazine Trophy
Series.

__ STEVE'S RUN, DOWAGIAC, SATURDAY, JULY 28, 2007 - Steve's Run
first took off in 1975 as "The Original Road and Trail Race".
The course goes through downtown Dowagiac, a golf course, a
cemetery, a wildlife sanctuary and Southwest Michigan College's
famous cross country trails. You won't get a PR jumping over
hay bales and stone fences, but you'll get some of the toughest
competition around. High school cross country teams camp out
the night before and Notre Dame's top runners will show up,
too. The 10K run, 5K run and walk and 1 mile fun run and walk
all begin in downtown Dowagiac at 9:00 am.

__ CARROLLTONN CHARITY ROAD RACES, CARROLLTON, SUNDAY, JULY 29,
2007 - We'll let a participant's post on
http://marathonguide.com tell the story:
"Beginning with the race director, and on through to the mix of
kids and adults volunteering their time last Sunday morning,
EVERYONE was absolutely wonderful. The course is flat as a
pancake, and my intent was to simply use it as a mid-summer
training run for my usual fall marathon. The hot, humid weather
guaranteed I wouldn't be looking to set a PR, which actually
made it more enjoyable to simply take in the small-town charm
and energy of the other runners. As others have commented
earlier, you see everyone multiple times, and it was fun to see
the leaders perform."
In addition to the marathon, you can choose a 5K run or walk, a
10K run or a 20K run. Marathoners and 20K runners go off at
6:00 am, Carrollton High School. The 10K and 5K begin at 8:15.

__ SYLVANIA ALL WOMEN TRIATHLON DUATHLON, SYLVANIA, OHIO,
SUNDAY, JULY 29, 2007 - Jim and Joyce Donaldson know how to
recruit new folks to triathlons; they have sessions for
beginners and set up courses that suit everyone from the novice
to the professional. With three events in the triathlon,
everyone has a favorite leg and a chance to shine in one of
them. The Sylvania All-Women Triathlon Duathlon was added in
2006 with short distances-- perfect for the first-timer: 400
yard swim, 12 mike bike and 3 mile run. Events, including the
duathlon, begin 7:30 am, Centennial Terrace and Quarry.

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD - GRASS LAKE - Jim Donaldson had lots of
terrific volunteers at the Waterloo Triathlon from the Chelsea
High School cross country teams. Jim was solo event director as
wife Joyce was in Rio de Janiero, officiating at the Pan Am
Games Triathlon.
