__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: GREAT TRAIN RACE - Ypsilanti Jaycees brought back the Great Train Race on it's 20th anniversary as part of the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival. __/ CRIM FITNESS FOUNDATION AND OAKLAND COUNTY ANNOUNCE PLANS FOR NEW RACE - "Tuesday, August 21 Less than a month after unveiling new Saginaw Street offices and an ambitious health and fitness initiative, officials of the Crim Fitness Foundation announced plans to partner with Oakland County to produce a half marathon road race in the fall of 2008. The race, named The Brooksie Way Half Marathon, Presented by Oakland County and The Crim Fitness Foundation, will honor the memory of the son of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, who passed away earlier this year. Discussions between the Crim and Oakland County officials began after Patterson announced in his State of the County address his desire to bring a world class running event into Oakland County, modeled after Flint's Crim Festival of Races. "We look forward to building 'The Brooksie Way' into an annual event that runners will highlight on their calendars," Patterson said. "We consider ourselves fortunate that the Crim Fitness Foundation and its long history of programming and fitness excellence is sharing its considerable expertise to put Oakland County on the racing map. They've allowed us to make enormous strides in a very short time and I'm excited about the prospect." Bobby Crim, former Michigan Speaker of the House and Crim founder, made the following comments concerning the new partnership: "It is a pleasure to be partnering with L. Brooks Patterson and the many resources of Oakland County for launching what is destined to be another world class running event. Our long term partnership is sure to bring many benefits for fighting the obesity epidemic that exists in our communities." -- Crim Fitness Foundation press release Contact: Deb Kiertzner, Crim Race Director - 810-235-3397 Or Stephen W. Huber, Oakland County Economic Development & Community Affairs - 248 - 858-1848"

"The 2007 Division I championships will be historic because of the live coverage," said Mark Bockelman, NCAA assistant director of championships. "The NCAA is committed to creating ways to make our championships exceptional for our student- athletes and fans. Adding live television coverage is an exciting step in reaching that goal and in promoting collegiate cross country." -- NCAA Press Release Michigan Runner TV Video: http://michiganrunner.tv/2005ncaa% 5Fxc/

__/ RUSHFORD RUSTIC RHODES WILL BE MEMORIAL FOR TOM RUSHFORD - Dan Deyo alerted us to the death of race founder/director Tom Rushford: "On Sunday, September 16 will be a memorial race for Tom Rushford in Rhodes. Tom died of a heart attack at the Auburn Cornstalk Race on July 12. Tom hosted a steeplechase 5K run on his farm in Rhodes. The Bay Area Runners Club will conduct the race as a memorial to Tom. Contact Runwild1128@Yaho.com or visit the Bay Area Runners Club site www.barc-mi.com."

__/ LABOR DAY 30K 10K, MILFORD, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 - Doug Klingensmith first brought the unusual 30K distance to the Southeast Michigan racing scene in 2001. Fall marathoners have been greatful ever since. Get in your marathon long run and get an official time, a post-race party and a medal while you're at it. The course is a wonderful combination of rolling hills, shaded dirt roads and city streets. Meet for the 30K, the 10K, the 30K relay or the kids run at Baker's Restaurant, 2025 Milford Rd. Race time is 8:00 am. Web: http://www.laborday30k.com Video: http://michiganrunner.tv/2006milford/

__/ RUNNING WATERS 5K, GAYLORD, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 - Planning to be up north and can't get into the Governor's Labor Day Run (too late to think about that one nowa)? There's a new race to try in Waters, Michigan near Gaylord. The 5K is part of the Thunder Over Waters celebration and begins at 8:30 am. Call or email Ann Wagar for details: (989) 732-4038, downingam@yahoo.com.

__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES - CRIM FESTIVAL OF RACES - We salute the terrific performances of Deb Kiertzner, the Crim volunteers, the Crim staff, John Gault and his team of timers. They pulled off the Crim Festival of Races despite falling buildings, actual severe weather and loss of power. Most runners barely noticed. CRIM - Grace Harrison, 10 mi, 1:16:19, 1st, 60-64 age group (14 minutes ahead of 2nd) - Doug Goodhue, 10 mi, 1:04:35, 1st, 65-69 age group (9:36 ahead of 2nd) - Laurie Decker, 5k, 19:42, 1st master, 2nd woman, 15th overall - Lisa Veneziano's double: 10 mi, 1:02:50, 3rd master, and 5k, 21:08, 2nd master - Mandi Zemba, 10 mi, 58:30, 8th woman, 1st Michigan in her first Crim - Sarah Hinckley, 10 mi, 59:03, 9th woman, 2nd Michigan in her first Crim - Boaz Cheboiywo, 10 mi, 48:40, 6th, 1st Michigan - Bobby Crim, 10 mi, 1:47:49, 5th 75-79 age group - Front Line Racing Team - Hard to beat Front Line's perfect score of 5: Marybeth Reader, Mike Scannell, Doug Kurtis, Paul Deladurantaye, and Doug Goodhue all won their divisions.

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD - FLINT Doubles: Jay Owen, Lisa Veneziano, and Maggy Zidar doubled in the 10 mile and the 5K. No easy way to keep track of these. If you did a double, let me know. We see by the results that Cindy Barber, former Michigander and current resident of Clermont, Florida returned to her home state. Cindy, now 49, ran a fast 1:12:02.

Here's another reason to be on a team: Team Challenge runners Front Line Racing Team, Stone Steppers, Motor City Striders and others traded war stories at the post race party in the VIP tent.
