__/ LANDON PEACOCK IS MICHIGAN HIGH SCHOOL RUNNER OF
THE YEAR - Jeff
Hollobaugh profiles Michigan Runner Magazine's High School Runner
of the
Year, Landon Peacock, in the September/October 2006 issue. With lots
of Michigan talent to choose from Michigan Runner Magazine looks at
performances in national and international events. Peacock made
statements
at Footlocker Nationals (5th), USA Cross Country Junior Championships
(7th in a college-dominated field), Western Hemisphere's NACAC Cross
Country Championships (bronze). Michigan Runner magazine is
available in
running specialty stores throughout Michigan.
__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: MILFORD LABOR DAY 30K, 10K, BIKE &
SKATE - The
Milford Labor Day 30K and 10K added bike and inline skating to their
mix as they continued to build the participation in their events. They
are supporting the new Milford Trail project as well as a number of other
charities. This is fast becoming a "must be there" event for the Labor
Day Weekend. It is also a great training run for fall marathons. Watch
the 30K for the view of a scenic and challenging course.

__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: CRIM FESTIVAL OF RACES - We
continue Crim shows
with the 10 Mile race-- featuring interviews with Molly Brinker, Tracy
Rizer, Julie Winter, Marybeth Reader, John Nelles, Greg Roth, Kathy
Roche-Wallace, Jo Darlington, Denisa Costescu and more. Later this
week:
Legends of the Crim including Steve Kenyon, 8K, 5K, Teddy Bear Trot
and
more. http://michiganrunner.tv/2006crim/
__/ DANCES WITH DIRT, PINCKNEY, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 -
The relays
filled up months ago, but you can still sign up to run the short ultra
(50K) or the long ultra (50 mile). Be prepared for an adventure which
includes dirt, logs, river crossings, pine needles. For a flavor of this
race see Michigan Runner magazine's article with Carter Sherline's
photos:
http://www.michiganrunner.net/news/dwd0904.html. Want to be part of
the
action? Volunteer. http://danceswithdirt.com
__/ MACKINAC ISLAND EIGHT MILE ROAD RACE, SATURDAY,
SEPTEMBER 9 - Every
runner should experience this grand Michigan road-racing tradition:
eight miles around the Island with views of the Straits of Mackinac and
the Mackinac Bridge. Don't expect a small local race; do expect a couple
thousand runners taking over the Island. St. Ignace Kiwanis host and
donate proceeds to St. Ignace high school track and cross country
teams.
Last year the high school got a new track. Check out Robin Sarris
Hallop's articles from Michigan Runner (2002 & 2005):

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD - MILFORD - Congrads to Doug Klingensmith,
Tiffany
Loeding and the Huron Valley Running Club for putting on the Milford
Labor Day Events:
* The 30K event is a much-needed distance on the racing agenda. The
10K, bike and in-line skate events bring lots of local residents into the
event.
* Doug Kurtis was official starter and Master of Ceremonies at the
award ceremony.
* The new Kenyan group training in Ann Arbor made a serious
statement
by winning both men's open events. 30K winner Emmanuel Kibet is
planning
to run Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon later on this month.
* Samantha Brish is on a roll. After winning her age group (14) in the
Crim 10 mile last week, she won her age group in the 10K. Samantha
can
be proud of her mom, too. Krys Brish was 3rd overall and 1st master in
the 30K.

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD - DETROIT OR "MAMMA, IT'S OINKING, IT'S
OINKING" -
It's a real treat to spend Labor Day Weekend in Detroit where you can
take in the Michigan State Fair at one end of Woodward and the Detroit
Jazz Festival at the other end of Woodward (Hart Plaza). Grandaughter
Lily got to pet newborn piglets, lambs and chicks at the fair. Ann Gasta,
race director for Bay City's St. Patrick Day Races, was taking in the
Jazz Fest and a cruise on the Detroit Princess Riverboat. Ann is
planning to run the Detroit Free Press / Flagstar Bank Marathon and she
had a
good chance to check out the route: Ambassador Bridge, Windsor
waterfront, the tunnel (sort of), Belle Isle.
