__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: DETROIT FREE PRESS FLAGSTAR MARATHON - We celebrate 30 years of the Detroit Free Press Flagstar Marathon with 1978 coordinator Molly MacDonald, 1978 director Ed Kozloff and 2007 director Patricia Ball. They talk about the international course of the nation's 10th oldest and fastest- growing marathon which includes a bridge, an underwater mile in the tunnel, an island and an international field. You can also check out seven years of Michigan Runner TV. http://michiganrunner.tv/2007detroit/ and http://michiganrunner.tv/detroit_freepress/

__/ RUNNING CANADA TV: MARATHON OASIS DE MONTREAL - Check out the dramatic marathon and half-marathon starts on the Jacques Cartier Bridge. Later on we'll have finishes in the Olympic Stadium of the marathon, half-marathon, 10K, 5K and kids run as well as an interview with Olympic sprinter Bruny Surin. http://glsp.com/runningcanada/montreal/

__/ MARATHON & BEYOND FEATURES HANSONS-BROOKS ODP AND DETROIT FREE PRESS FLAGSTAR MARATHON - Marathon & Beyond, our favorite national running magazine, is great reading whether or not you run marathons. The September/October issue arrived with the familiar red, yellow and black singlet of the Hansons-Brooks Original Development Program. Brian Sell graces the cover and Tito Morales writes about the successful program. Dr. Edward H. Kosloff writes "Going Very Long in Detroit; the 10th Oldest Marathon in America Celebrates its 30th/45th anniversary. You can order a subscription or a single issue at http://marathonandbeyond.com.

__/ JUST AS WE THOUGHT...GLSP..THE WORLD'S OLDEST INTERNET TELEVISION NETWORK - "It's time to retire 'surfing the web' from the "Dictionary of Internet Jargon". You hardly ever hear it nowadays because that's not what most of us do when we go online anymore. We don't surf, we do specific things--e-mailing, instant messaging, shopping Googling. And according to two recent studies from Cisco and the Onine Publishign Association (OPA), what people do more than anything online is consume 'content', look at videos and photographs, read the news, and get the lowdown on friends and celebrities at MySpace or Facebook. In other words, we've become web potatoes."

The article in the September issue of Fortune, goes on to say that consumer traffic use is averaging 57% growth. "As the wild popularity of You Tube has shown, video and the web were made for each other. Its only a matter of time before most video-even plain old tv- will be delivered to your living room via the web."

GLSP put its first video online in 2001, this year, our viewership on our five channels, Michigan Golfer, Michigan Skier, Michigan Travel, Running Canada and Michigan Runner will near two million viewers. To our over 1300 shows now online, we have added nearly a hundred to You Tube, the USA Today of the video world.

__/ TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES NOMINATED FOR NCAA ATHLETE OF THE YEAR - "New Orleans - Fourteen of the 30 conference nominees for the NCAA's Woman of the Year award competed in track & field and/or cross country, including Wake Forest's Michelle Sikes, the Rhodes Scholar and NCAA Division I outdoor champion in the 5,000 meters. Outdoor track & field had the most nominees of the various women's sports with 12. Indoor track & field (10) and cross country (seven) also had more nominees than the next-closest sport, basketball (five nominees). Now in its 17th year, the Woman of the Year award honors exceptional female student-athletes who excel in academics, athletics and community leadership. The nominees have completed their collegiate athletics eligibility. Many of the nominees competed in multiple sports. A national winner will be selected by the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics from a group of nine finalists. The top nine finalists will be announced later this month, and the 2007 Woman of the Year will be announced October 27th in Indianapolis."

Among the nominees is Lisa Winkle, Calvin College, Division III, basketball and outdoor track & field. Winkle was a seven- time All-American in track & field (long jump, 400 and both relays) and averaged 14.1 points and 10 rebounds a game during her four years on the Calvin basketball team. In addition to volunteering at local public schools, Winkle majored in mathematics and graduated with a 3.966 GPA. -- USTFCCCA Press Release

If you're looking for an interesting, scenic, spring marathon, check out this one on May 11, 2008. The course goes through rolling hills of Mississauga's beautiful neighborhoods and ends at the spectacular Port Credit waterfront of Lake Ontario. http://www.mississaugamarathon.com

- MONTREAL - Marathon Oasis de Montreal is a wonderful destination marathon or half-marathon. Montreal has delightful contrasts of the old city and port, parks, and the new city. The metro/subway is an easy way to get around and an easy way for family and friends to get around to see marathoners on race day.
