-- MT. BALDHEAD CHALLENGE - Have you heard about the stairs? 282 stairs up Mt. Baldhead? Those stairs are the "challenge" part of the Mt. Baldhead Challenge in Saugatuck-Douglas. The rest of the 15K is all Kalamazoo River, Lake Michigan scenery and winding downhill trails through the woods. Scott Sullivan hosts our coverage of the 9th annual event and Matt Smith demonstrates how to run the stairs in claiming his 7th win.

-- SCOTIABANK TORONTO WATERFRONT MARATHON, TORONTO, ONTARIO, SUNDAY, SEPT. 24 - It's impossible to get enough of Toronto, but the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon course is a satisfying dose and a wonderful tour of the vital, historic and trendy waterfront. Courses are marked on both miles and kilometers. Weekend events are all about fun: David Usher headlines the "Welcome Concert" for the marathon weekend beginning at 6:00 pm Friday night. The expo includes a great line-up of speakers, including Bart Yasso, John Bingham and "The Jogglers": Michal Kapral & Perry Romanowski. You can still register at the expo for the marathon, half-marathon or 5K. New start time for marathon and half marathon is 7:00 am.

-- FOX CITIES MARATHON, NEENAH, WISCONSIN, SUNDAY, SEPT. 24 - The experts know this is a good one: the 50 States Marathon Club is holding its Fall reunion at Fox Cities Marathon Festival of Races. A relay, half marathon, half-marathon walk, 5K and kids runs offer something for everyone. Michelob Ultra sponsors the post race party near the finish line at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley.

-- CAPITAL CITY RIVER RUN, SUNDAY, SEPT. 24 - Just blocks from Michigan's capitol building is the city of Lansing's River Trail, 8 miles of paved path and boardwalk along the Grand and Red Cedar rivers. The Capital City River Run course uses the trail for both the 10 Mile Run and the 5K Run/Walk. Events, including a kids run and many other activities for kids, begin at 9:30 am at the Impression 5 Science Center. Course support is available for those wishing to add 10 miles for a 20 mile training run.

-- LAKE SUPERIOR SHORE RUN RACE AGAINST TOBACCO, MARQUETTE, SATURDAY, SEPT. 23 - There is no shortage of spectacular scenery available to Michigan runners in road and trail races, but the Lake Superior Shore Run at Little Presque Isle needs to be on your must-do-scenic list. The half marathon course involves shoreline trails and tough climbs with the reward of Lake Superior and Huron Mountain views. Events, including a 5K and kids run, begin at 10:00 am. -- Course records: Matt Smith (50:36), Kristin Walstadt (1:00:44), and Gayle Kuipers (Masters 1:05:22) each set new course records at the Mt. Baldhead Challenge 15K on Saturday.

-- Laurie Decker, 46, set her 8K PR: 30:58 at the Playmakers Autumn Classic in Haslett.

-- Kevin Hanson, 45, 6th overall, Detroit Zoo Run 10K, 35:08

-- Denisa Costescu won two races over the weekend: Saturday - Detroit Zoo Run 5K, 16:58, and Sunday - Playmakers Autumn Classic 8K, 28:39.

-- Kyle Baker, 1st, Gazelle Sports Bridge Run 10 Mile, 49:26.

__/ SOME GO LONG AT KENSINGTON CHALLENGE 15K - Kensington Challenge Race Director Jo Darlington wants Michigan Running News readers to know that many runners in the 15K ran a little long at Saturday's race: "Many runners of the 15K Run ran extra distances. Quite a few ran the complete 0.9 miles extra. Others ran a quarter mile or a half mile extra. This happened because our turn-around point at Turtle Head wasn't clear. Due to construction this year the course had been lengthened at around mile 3. Therefore the turn-around would be come sooner and not go as far into Turtle Head like last year. We had people assigned to that location and a special 15K turn-around sign made for that location but neither were in place. This caused a discrepancy in award placement because not everyone ran the extra distances."
