__/ RANDY STEP: RUNNING FAST - FORM, THE LAST FRONTIER
Susan Hodgson of Running Fit alerted us to Randy Step's article in
which he "talks about a new wave of running called Chi Running and
how he's increased his speed not, by training, but changing his running
form. Very interesting and gives hope to runners who are afraid they've
reached a plateau."

__/ ONEAMERICA T00 FESTIVAL MINI-MARATHON TO ALLOW
REGISTRATION TRANSFERS
Didn't get registered for the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon
before the Dec. 13 sell-out? Or perhaps you did register and realize now
that your sister's wedding is the same day and you're in it? There's good
news for both. The 500 Festival announced that although the 29th
running of the nation's largest half-marathon has sold out with 30,000
registrations, it will allow transfers for the first time. For details see
http://www.500festival.com.
__/ GET COLLEGE CREDIT FOR RUNNING GRANDMAS MARATHON
OR BJORKLAND HALF
As a university administrator for many years, I think it's cool that an
academic insitution understands that running a marathon or half
marathon is worthy of college credit: "Grandma's Marathon of Duluth,
Minnesota is partnering with Lake Superior College of Duluth and the
college's Virtual Campus to offer two online college courses. You can
earn credit for running the full Grandma's Marathon or the Garry
Bjorkland Half Marathon.
The virtual training course includes nutritional and conditioning
information. You can take the course from anywhere in the country as
long as you show up to run the race (your final exam!)."
Courses begin March 21 and end June 24. For more information on
PE2999: Running a Marathon or PE2999: Running a Half Marathon,
see http://www.grandmasmarathon.com/news/ or contact Christine
Torma: c.torma@lsc.mnscu.edu.
__/ RITZ NAMED USATF ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
INDIANAPOLIS - Dathan Ritzenhein has been named USA Track &
Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the men's race Sunday at the
2004 Reebok Cross Country Challenge in Belfast, Ireland. A 2004
Olympian, Ritzenhein (Boulder, Colo.) held an 18-second lead over the
field with 1,800 meters to go before roaring to the finish in 29 minutes,
26 seconds over Kenyans Ernest Meil (2nd, 29:34) and Barnabas
Kosgei (3rd, 29:35).
The 2003 NCAA cross country champion and 2001 World Cross
Country Championships junior men's bronze medalist, Ritzenhein will
open his U.S. indoor season January 29 in the 3,000 meters at the
Reebok Boston Indoor Games at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic
Center in Boston.
Now in its fifth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is
designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport.
USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on
the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and
results from the previous week.
