__ / EASTERN MICHIGAN HONORING TONY MIFSUD Eastern Michigan Head Men's Cross Country Coach John Goodridge writes:

"Our great friend Tony Mifsud is being honored Friday night Januray 13 at the Annual EMU Cross Country Banquet as the recipient of our EASTERN MAN AWARD for his outstanding contributions to Eastern Michigan University and the Michigan running community.

I invite you to please join us as we honor Tony.

The Banquet is held on the EMU campus in the McKenny Union Ballroom. Doors open at 7pm and dinner is at 7:30. Tickets are $15 per person with checks payable to EMU Cross Country and sent to John Goodridge,Athletic Department-Bowen,Eastern Michigan University,Ypsilanti,Michigan 48197.

2002 - Bob Parks 2002 __/ HANSONS-BROOKS ATHLETES SWEEP DISNEY HALF MARATHON - Melissa White and Josh Eberly are the official winners of the Disney World Half Marathon; however, the Hansons-Brooks sweep doesn't end there. Eberly's teammate Josh Moen crossed the line at the same time (1:08:12) and was awarded 2nd place. Jeff Gaudette was right behind (1:08:21) to take third. Melissa White had first place to herself (1:18:32) and her teammate Dot McMahan (1:19:00) was second. White, McMahan and teammates Jennifer Derego, Yolando Flamino and Susan Barth were not yet done for the day. Saturday afternoon they were speakers at the Disney World Health and Fitness Expo. __/ DEBBIE LAZAROFF SETS A GOAL -- WINS DISNEY MARATHON AGE GROUP - Debbie Lazaroff of Jackson, Michigan, and her brother Robert Dorr of Hudsonville, Michigan, are among a very select group who have run all of the 13 Disney Marathons. This year Debbie joined another select group by winning her age group; she was first among the 376 people in the 50-54 group. At the awards ceremony Debbie told us that she knew she'd be in that new age group a few days before the marathon. She aimed for that age-group win by training hard. Debbie typically runs 7-11 marathons every year and she has placed 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th in her age group at Disney in recent years. __/ SELL HEADLINES USA MEN'S HALF MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEKEND - Brian Sell will take on some tough competition at the USA Men's Half Marathon Championships at the Houston Half Marathon this weekend. In addition to teammates Trent Briney, Kyle O'Brien, Luke Humphrey, Clint Verran, Chad Johnson and Mike Morgan, former Michigan Runner of the Year, Kyle Baker, and Detroit Free Press / Flagstar Bank Marathon winner, Fred Keiser are in the field.

__/ THE JOGGER - Former Michigan resident, Mike McCafferty, has appeared in Six Feet Under, The Shield, and West Wing. Now he has a hit with the Channel 101 Internet show "The Jogger" for which he is the producer and the star. The "jogger" gets involved in solving a crime while out on a training run. __/ MRN ON THE ROAD - DISNEY WORLD MARATHON WEEKEND By almost any standard, Disney's decision to hold their half marathon and marathon on different days is a success. The half marathon sold out at 16,000 and the marathon field was 14,500. Although Disney expected a couple hundred hardy souls to attempt the "Goofy" challenge (both the half on Saturday and the full marathon on Sunday) more than 3,000 did both events. Michigan Runner TV will feature several shows from the Disney Health and Fitness Expo and the races in upcoming weeks:
