__/ FIFTH THIRD RIVER BANK RUN KICKS TRAINING FOR 30TH ANNIVERSARY -

Race Director Kristen Aidif and her team have so many cool things planned for the 30th anniversary of this historic Grand Rapids race that we hardly know where to start.

-- The May 12th 25K race will serve as the 25K USA National Championship for the 13th consecutive year.

-- A new 15K training run on April 21 will allow participants to test their training as a benefit for Rotary International's sustainable water campaign.

-- Bill Rodgers, winner of the inaugural 25K in 1978 will return for the 30th anniversary and will join 7 time winner Greg Meyer and others for a panel discussion at the Sports and Fitness Expo.

-- Training guides for the 25K (beginning and expert) and the 5K are available online.

-- Beginn ing Janaury 19, a videocast with historical race footage and 30th anniversary highlights will be available online.

__/ RYAN HALL SETS PENDING U.S. HALF MARATHON RECORD (59:43) IN HOUSTON

-- Ryan Hall, the Stanford runner who ran just 1 second slower Dathan Ritzenhein for the 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championship, is the 2007 USATF Half Marathon champion and the new American record- holder at the distance. Hall beat Mark Curp's 1985 record by a minute and 12 seconds and he's the first American to break an hour for the half- marathon. Many are calling Hall's race at the Aramco Houston Half Marathon, January 14, 2007, one of the best-ever performances by an American distance runner. Defending champion Brian Sell finished 6th in 1:03:10.

__/ RYAN HALL ON MICHIGAN RUNNER TV - Check out Ryan Hall's race and his remarks at the 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championships. Hall's enthusiasm for the sport comes through: "I just love to run." Some things have changed for the former middle-distance specialist: "10,000 meters is about 8,500 meters too long for me," said Hall in November 2003.

-- Wyoming, MI - We stopped by Craig's Cruisers in Wyoming for the first of two Fifth Third River Bank Run 25K training kickoff parties. A big crowd attended the mini Sports and Fitness Expo, signed up for the 25K run, met with local runners and ate free pizza. The lucky first 100 also picked up a cool long-sleeve T-Shirt with the 30th anniversary logo. I'm a fan of Oakley shades and they got my attention at the Expo with the "Thump"-- shades with an mp3 player built in. __/ RRCA SEEKS APPLICATIONS FOR 2007 ROADS SCHOLAR PROGRAM

"January 12, 2007 Columbia, MD - Since 1996, the Road Runners Club of America has awarded stipends through its Roads Scholar program to assist American post-collegiate road runners who show great promise to develop into national and world class road running athletes. The RRCA is now accepting applications for our 2007-2008 Roads Scholar Class. The application can be found on-line at http://www.rrca.org/programs/ roadsscholar. The deadline for applying is March 31, 2007.

The program is directed towards runners who:

- Are US citizens

- Have graduated from college (or whose class has graduated)

- Plan to race in top open road race events (not just track, cross country or US-only events)

- Expect to earn less than $30,000 from all sources during the calendar year."

"The Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association (MITCA) is pleased to announce their 2007 Student Track & Field Clinic which is being held in conjunction with their annual Coaches Educational Clinic. Held at Okemos High School on Saturday February 10, the clinic is comprised of two 90 minute sessions with instruction being provided by several of MIchigan's top HS coaches as well as national experts in their areas.

The cost is $10 for pre-registers and $15 for walk-ins with no guarantee of availability for either sessions or giveaway shirts. High school and middle school aged children only please. This is a great opportunity for interested athletes to get 'fired up' about your upcoming track season! FRI-JAN 19 - The Traverse City Track Club annually welcomes nationally acclaimed running experts to help runners prepare for the Traverse City State Bank Bayshore Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10k. This year's program welcomes Luke Humphrey, Brian Sell, and Clint Verran of the Hanson/Brooks Distance Project. The free program begins at 7:00 pm, Northwest Michigan College's Haggerty Center, 715 E. Front Street, Traverse City.
