__/__/____/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: AN INTERVIEW WITH WORLD
CHAMPION SPRINTER LAURYN WILLIAMS - At this weekend's
Reebok Boston Indoor Games, Lauryn Williams, the "World's Fastest
Women," is one of the marquee athletes. The former Detroiter and
University of Miami graduate got the world's attention when she won the
2004 NCAA 100 meter title and a spot on the US Olympic team. She
won a silver medal in Athens in 2004 and two titles at the at the 2005
World Championships in Helsinki: 100 meters and the 4 x 100 relay. We
spoke with Lauryn at the Walt Disney World Health and Fitness Expo,
January 6, 2006.

__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"I usually don't remember much about my races. When I can tell you
something about the race, I lost."
-- Lauryn Williams, quoted on the Boston Indoor Games Website:

__/ TRY A SNOWSHOE RACE UP NORTH

Traverse City, Timber Ridge Nordic Center, 8:00 am. This is a qualifier
for the National Championship Snowshow Race in Vermont, but you
don't need experience and you don't need snowshoes to try this race.
Running Fit will rent you the snowshoes. http://runsnow.com.
-- Snowshoe Stomp, Suttons Bay, Ciccone Vinyards, Saturday, February
18, 4M snowshoe, 2M snowshoe hike, 8:30 am. Nate Rouse and Tony
Ciccone-- the same folks who brought us the Harvest Stompede have

University.
__/ LOOKING FOR A PRE SUPER BOWL RUN/PARTY?
"Running Fit is bringing back the Superbowl 5k in Novi on February 5,
2006. As with all big time sporting events, we expect some silliness and
stupidity at the Superbowl 5K! This is the kind of event to dig out the
licensed gear.
Team Jerseys, Helmets ... If it snows heavy, even the cleats! Plan on a
junk food breakfast tailgate (Indoors if it's not 50 degrees and sunny ...
that's the weather we're plannin' on.) Awards (Extra beer glasses and
other swag) for those of you who do the theme up right. (Belly painting,
Cheese on your head and such).
The first 300 finishers will receive a pint glass, plus we've got mini
football age group awards 5 deep in all age groups. ALL THE COOL
PEOPLE WILL BE AT THIS SUPERBOWL EVENT! Volunteers? If
anyone is interested in volunteering (Mick, can you sing the anthem?)
please email susan@runningfit.com or call 734.929.9027. All
volunteers will receive free entry into other 5k and 10k Running Fit
events as well as cool Superbowl 5k swag."

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD: BELLAIRE, EAST JORDAN, BOYNE
HIGHLANDS, HARBOR SPRINGS, TRAVERSE CITY,
THOMPSONVILLE TRAVERSE CITY: We enjoyed Bart Yasso's remarks
about his running adventures and marathon training simplified. Bart
makes running 146 miles in 125 degree heat sound easy. We're also
excited about the addition of the half marathon to the annual Bayshore
lineup on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. We never get tired of
the scenery of the Bayshore course and the half-marathon is a good
way to experience that.
BOYNE HIGHLANDS - Although most people think of downhill skiing at
Boyne Highlands, I got a chance to try out their wonderful cross country
trails which featured beautiful tree canopies, and long, gentle downhills
which were a cinch to climb back up.
GOOD FOOD & BEVERAGE AND FRIENDLY PLACES WE FOUND
ON THIS ROAD TRIP:
-- Short's Brewing Company, Bellaire - Nicie Spicie beer with chicken
wings that were just out of the pan, free WI-FI
-- Minerva's, Park Place Hotel, Traverse City - white chicken chili
-- Mary Ellen's Place, Harbor Springs - anything breakfast, especially
the homemade corn beef hash
-- Murray's Bar, East Jordan - Irish coffee and a great view of Lake
Charlevoix; we will go back for food and a daytime view.
-- Thistle Pub and Grill, Kinlochen, Crystal Mountain, Thompsonville -
Tennants's beer and sirloin chili
