__/ WHAT ARE YOUR BEST TIMES OF 2003? - Michigan Runner will publish its annual "Best of Times" for 2003 in the March/April 2004 issue. Times will be listed for 5K, 8K, 10K, 15K, 10 Mile, 20K, 1/2 marathon, 25K and marathon. If you ran a *certified* race in Michigan or elsewhere, send your times (jennie@glsp.com or FAX 734.434.4765). You can check the Best Times of 2002 at http://www.michiganrunner.net/other/ 0303archive.html.

__/ JOE HENDERSON LEAVES RUNNER'S WORLD - Change is inevitable, but some changes are truly startling. After more 250 columns in Runner's World magazine, Joe Henderson's March 2004 column will be his last. Joe Henderson has made many friends in Michigan during his countless speaking engagements here. He has participated in the Crim telecast, appeared at Michigan Runner Race Director workshops, encouraged runners at the Mackinac Island Eight Mile forum. Michigan Runner publisher, Art McCafferty, knows Joe not only as a prolific and influential writer, but as the original "Good Joe", one of the nicest people you could ever meet. For Joe's view of his leaving Runner's World, see http://www.runnersworld.com/home/0,1300,1-0-0- ZNEWS----01-05-2004,00.html __/ GARY MORGAN MAKES IT A NEW YEARS EVE DOUBLE -Race walker and Olympian Gary Morgan of Clarkston celebrated News Years Eve by winning the race walk in the 34th annual Belle Isle New Years Eve Family Fun Run and Walk and then hopping on a plane to New York for the Midnight Run in New York City's Central Park.

Gary will be competing at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, 50K Race Walk, at Chula Vista, California, February 15, 2004.

__/ FRONT LINE RACING TEAM MASTERS MARATHON RELAYS LEAD THE WORLD IN 2003-Fred Vanhala reports in his Front Line Racing Team Newsletter: "After reviewing the final marathon relay times for the year, the Front Line Racing Team Masters Teams had the 1st, 2nd, and 8th fastest 5 Man Relay times in the world last year." The top team ran a 2:29:11 at the Akron Marathon on October 11 included Don Singleton, Doug Ogden, Eric Stuber, Ron Buchanan, and Michigan Master Runner of the Year, Chris Glowacki.

Fred is recruiting teams for the 2004 USA Country Championships, February 7 & 8, in Indianapolis. For more information see the Front Line Racing Team Website: http://www.frontlineracingteam.com/.

__/ RUNNING USA MEETS IN SCOTTSDALE THIS WEEKEND - Crim Executive Director Sherlynn Everly and more than 150 leaders in the business and sport of road running will gather this weekend for Running USA 2004: the National Conference for the Running Industry. Meetings in Scottsdale will be Friday, January 9 and Saturday, January 10. Among the featured speakers will be Ryan Shay, current USATF Champion in both the marathon and the half-marathon. Shay will appear with his coach, Joe Vigil, and US record-holder in the marathon, Deanna Drossin Kastor in the session: "Developing Champions." Ann Arbor resident, Mike Burns of Champion Chip USA, will be among the speakers on "New Products and Emerging Technology." __/ RUNNING NETWORK MEETS IN LAKE BUENA VISTA THIS WEEKEND- Michigan Runner editor Scott Sullivan, publisher Art McCafferty and I are also headed south to attend the annual meeting of running magazines at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. New England Runner, Running Journal, Marathon & Beyond, American Track and Field Athlete, Runner's Gazette, Midwest Runner, RunOhio, and Florida Running and Triathlon are among the publications in the Running Network. http://runningnetwork.com.

__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK - "Jobs, like races, have finish lines. These seldom come at exactly the time you expect or hope. But whatever the result, you accept it and move on because the only other option is to give up for good." -- Joe Henderson, "Long Run's End", The Bell Lap, Runner's World Online, January 5, 2004, writing about the end of his column in Runner's World.
