__/__/__/__/__/__/___/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/ __/__/__ __/ COLUMBUS MARATHON, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2005 - Sunny skies and temperatures in the low 50's are forecast for Columbus, Ohio on Sunday.

Columbus has everything going for it: a big expo, an entertaining course and a friendly Ohio welcome to everyone--including Michigan runners. (We recommend wearing red!) The two or three person relay lets everyone participate. The Columbus Marathon encourages walkers with an early start time. http://columbusmarathon.com.

__/ TORONTO MARATHON, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2005 - Online registration is open through Midnight tonight, October 12 for the marathon, half-marathon, relay, and 5K. The marathon and half- marathon begin in trendy North York and follow Toronto's famous Yonge street to Queen's Park. The pasta dinner is truly a feast not to be missed. Forecast is perfect running weather: scattered clouds, low 50'sF/ 11-15 C.

__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV SCOTIABANK TORONTO WATERFRONT MARATHON - More shows coming later on this week. The early marathon start and the half marathon start will be online by Friday morning. The early marathon start included a surprisingly large number of runners and walkers. You can also seem some of the early behind-the-scenes action on race day. http://michiganrunner.tv/2005scotiabank/

RED OCTOBER RUN - Watch for these shows to be available next week.

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD - CLARKSTON - We were reminded Sunday of the beautiful trails in Clarkston's Independence Oaks Park. The Hidden Forest Trail Run takes every advantage of the trails along ponds, through woods, and by picturesque meadows. It was one of those days when we just didn't want to stop at the finish line.

__/ DETROIT FREE PRESS / FLAGSTAR BANK - FIRST TIMERS AGE GROUP AWARDS

- Several years ago, the Detroit Free Press / Flagstar Bank Marathon began issuing different bib colors to first-time marathoners. It's been fun to see the extra encouragement along the course and the finish-line recognition for first-timers. This year, first-timers are getting recognized in yet another way: awards will be given to the top male and female first time marathon finisher in each of the following age groups: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+

__/ RUNNING 101 - Running Fit's classes for the beginning runner begin November 1 in Northville, Nov. 2 in West Bloomfield and November 3 in Novi and Ann Arbor. This class is designed for people who've never run a step and a great refresher for people who need to make a comeback! A typical class meets at 6:30pm for a ground run/ walk. At 7:30pm a guest speaks on topics such as injury prevention, nutrition, feet, shoes and apparel and general running information. http://www.runningfit.com/run101.cfm

__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES - CROSS COUNTRY - For the last several years, the Portage Invitational has been a great event for high school and middle school cross country runners.
