__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: SCOTIABANK TORONTO WATERFRONT MARATHON - September 25th brought warm temperatures and nearly 10,000 runners from 30 countries to Toronto's waterfront. We begin the video gallery with the marathon, the marathon start with three cameras, and Scotiabank VP Kaz Flinn talking about the role of the race in raising $500,000 for charity. More video on the half-marathon, the 5K, Team in Training and the Friendship Run will follow in future weeks. http:// michiganrunner.tv/2005scotiabank/

__/ HIDDEN FOREST TRAIL RUN, CLARKSTON, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9- October is the peak of fall colors at Independence Oaks Park in Clarkston so you'll be running and walking and walking on wood chip trails through some of the most wonderfully decorated hardwood forests in southeastern Michigan. Take I-75 to the Sashabaw Rd Exit (89), go north on Sashabaw approxiimately 2.5 miles to park entrance. Follow park signs to Twin Chimney Pavilion. All events begin at 9:30 am. The 2.5 Mile run or walk makes a single circuit around Crooked Lake, with rolling hills. The challenging 5.5 Mile race continues a second time around the lake and branches off onto Rock Ridge Trail. The longest 8.5 Mile race includes a third lap, continuing onto Spring Lake Trail - this one is not for the frail of heart. Register online or download entry form: http://gaultracemanagement.com.

__/ PUMPKIN TROT, ST. JOHNS, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9 - One of the hightlights of St. Johns' annual Pumpkin in the Park festival is the Pumpkin Trot, sponsored by the St. Johns Lions Club. The 1K kids race begins at 1:00 pm; the 5K and 10K runs set off at 1:20 pm. Events begin and end at St. Johns City Park. Walkers, rollerbladers and challenged persons are all invited to participate. Pumpkins in the Park features four days of events, including a pumpkin decorating contest and the Pumpkin Classic Car and Truck Show. For more information contact George Campbell, (989) 224-6464 or geokath@voyager.net

__/ CRIM CHAMPION FABIANO JOSEPH WINS WORLD HALF MARATHON - Fabiano Joseph, the nineteen year old from Tanzania who won the 2005 Crim 10 Mile, demonstrated speed and impressive racing strategy to nip Mubarak Hassan Shami (Qatar) at the wire to win the IAAF World Half Marathon Championship in Edmonton, Alberta Saturday. Joseph's winning time was 1:01:08. For a terrific profile of Joseph, see http://www.iaaf.org/WHM05/news/Kind=2/newsId= 32236.html

East Jordan's Ryan Shay (1:03:13, 15th) and former Rockford star Jason Hartmann (1:03:32, 20th) led the US team to a sixth place finish. Shay's 15th place is the best ever by a US runner in the event. For more information, including photos of Shay, Hartmann and Dot McMahan (1:18:44, PR), see http://michiganrunner.net/news/shay_worldhalf1005.html

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD - WAYNE - Cynthia Cook, the Oakwood Hospital Auxiliary and the Red October Run sure do know how to take care of runners. The course for the 10K and 5K is flat and fast, the age group prizes are useful-embroidered winter running hats this year--, and the post-race goodies include dozens of homemade cookies. We'll have Michigan Runner TV video by next week.

__/ RAVE REVIEW: OAKWOOD HEALTH RUNNERS CLINIC - The Oakwood Health Care Sports Medicine group held the first of several clinics for runners earlier this week. The clinic was a terrific value. Each runner received one-on-one attention from both a physical therapist and an athletic trainer. The clinic covered biomechanics, shoe fit, injury prevention and running gait video analysis. I came away with new stretches I can do to help prevent a recurring injury. Future clinics are planned for different locations throughout the metro-Detroit area. The charge for the clinic was very reasonable for all the individual attention. For information about future clinics see http://www.oakwood.org/ SportsMedicine/.

__/ DETROIT FREE PRESS / FLAGSTAR BANK MARATHON OFFERS GENEROUS PRIZES - In addition to the open division, masters division, and Detroit & Windsor division, first timers are in a division, too. Prize incentives are also available for first male and female finishers to break time and race records.

__/ PACING CHICAGO - CORRECTION- Last week we reported that Don Kern and Gary Morgan would be pacing runners at the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. We mistakenly reported Morgan's goal time; he'll be aiming to bring marathoners through in 3:40. Should be a popular group since women age 18-34 running 3:40 qualify for Boston.

__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES - ROADS - Michigan has some really competitive senior runners. Last week's Red October Run was a great day for running and we note here some of the great performances there:

-- Jackie Blair, 50, 1st overall, 10K, 42:15 (6:48 pace)

-- Doug Goodhue, 63, 7th overall, 5K, 17:51 (5:45 pace)

-- Donna Olson, 55, 3rd female, 5K, 22:55 (7:23 pace). Donna ran with broken ribs, no less.
