__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: GREAT TURTLE RUNS ON MACKINAC
ISLAND
While you are planning your Halloween weekend, take a look at one of
Michigan's fun traditions: the Great Turtle Runs (half marathon or 5.7
mile trail runs) on Mackinac Island. The award/pasta party after the
races will set you up for the Halloween parties at Horn's Bar, the French
Outpost and other spots just before they close for the season. Bring
costumes for you and the kids; host hotel Mission
Point Resort features a kids parade and room-to-room trick-or-treating.

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD, WAYNE
Thank-you, Cynthia Cook and Oakwood Hospital, for a terrific
experience at Saturday's Red October Run. We enjoyed the flat, fast
course through picturesque neighborhoods. Everyone
enjoyed the post-race goodies: bagels, cookies, doughnuts, hot-dogs,
apples, cider and lots of really nice door prizes. It was also a treat to line
up for the age-group awards: wind-shirts with the "Red October Run"
logo. We bet that Dave Furey would win the 10K and, sure enough,
he did. We also had the chance to meet 10K winner, Valari Ambrose,
who was profiled in the September/October Michigan Runner. Valari
claims to be more of a 5K runner, but she's training for the 10K run in an
upcoming triathlon. Thank-you, too, Bill Fletcher, for a terrific
conversation during the race, and for pulling me along to a
10KPR.
__/JOHNNY KELLEY DIES AT AGE 97
Johnny Kelley, who ran in 61 Boston Marathons and won it twice, died
last night in Cape Cod, Massachusetts at the age of 97. Kelley ran the
marathon in two Olympic Games and served as the Grand Marshall of
the Boston Marathon for the last ten years. For more on Johnny Kelley,

__/ PUMPKIN TROT, ST. JOHNS, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10

lawn, a corn-maze, a tractor-pull, and a parade. For more information,

__/ HIDDEN FOREST TRAIL RUN & WALK, CLARKSTON, SUNDAY,
OCTOBER 10
This is the third race in the Michigan Runner Trail Run series. (Run
this along with Steve's Run and one of the Keeweenaw Festival Trail
Runs to be eligible for a $100 prize drawing.)
