__/ THE TURKEYS ARE TROTTING
The Turkeys are beginning to trot this weekend. You can catch them in
Laingsburg and Ann Arbor.
* The 'Burg Run' in Laingsburg, November 17 has a special deal. If you
are a past Burg Run participant, you can bring up to three "newbies" to
participate in their first 'Burg Run' and receive $5.00 off your entry fee for
each, up to your entire entry fee. You'll still get the shirt and share the
fun. Starts at 2:00 pm.
* Formerly known as Elmo's Run, the Ann Arbor Turkey Trot on
November 17 will take place at Hudson Mills Metropark on North
Territorial Road just west of Huron River Drive. The 5K run/walk starts at
9:00 am, the 10K at 10:00 am (run both if you like) and kids dash at
11:00 am. Courses are flat and fast. Register online at
www.signmeup.com/15698. --Charles Douglas McEwen.
Next weekend
* Ron Gunn started Dowagiac's Turkey Trot, one of the state's oldest
turkey trots, when he came to Southwestern Michigan College 36 years
ago. The November 24th event offers 8K, 5K, 3K and 1-mile races, plus
a tot trot, starting at 1:00 pm and ending at Zollar Sports Center, 58900
Cherry Grove. It's free for SMC students. Call (616) 782.1209 or (616)
782-1210. --Charles Douglas McEwen.
Thanksgiving Day
* The Jackalope Running Club in Pinckney is sponsoring the first
Pinckney Turkey Trot Thanksgiving Day morning. All the proceeds will
go to help bring the "Girls on the Run" program to Pinckney and families
get a break on the entry fee. What's more? Free turkeys will be awarded
to the first place runners in each age group. All donations are fully tax-
deductable as the Jackalope Running Club is a 501(c)3 non-profit. The
2 mile fun run/walk starts at 9:00 am at the Gazebo in downtown
Pinckney. Call 734-878-5530 or 734-954-0025.
* Winners of The Thanksgiving Day Parade Turkey Trot in downtown
Detroit get to ride in the parade. Close to 5,400 runners and walkers
took part in last year's 10K, many dressed as pilgrims, turkeys, elves
and reindeer. This year's race celebrating its 20th anniversary, starts at
8:00 am in front of the Matthaei Building at Wayne State University,
heads downtown, goes up spectator-lined Woodward Avenue, then
returns to Matthaei. See http://motorcitystriders.com.
--Charles Douglas McEwen.
* Lansing's turkeys are also trotting on Thanksgiving morning. Chuck
Block's Lansing Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk starts at 9:00 am at Lansing
Community College, on Grand Avenue between Shiawassee and
Saginaw, travels through downtown and along the River Trail. Overall
and masters champs win $25 gift certificates and age-group winners get
$10 certificates. Proceeds benefit the Michigan Running Foundation
Scholarship Fund. Call 517.702,.0226. --Charles Douglas McEwen.
* Snow or no snow, Marquette's Thanksgiving Day 5K, 10K and 9-mile
