__/ 25TH ROSEVILLE BIG BIRD SHOWING ON MICHIGAN
RUNNER TV - ROSEVILLE (11/9/03) -
Sunny skies, crisp temperatures and Michigan Runner TV
helped the Roseville Big Bird Run celebrated its 25th
anniversary in style. 10K, 4K and 1 Mile participants
were eligible for the turkey raffles and Race Director Tony
Lipinski talks with Russell Labarge and Darrell McKee who
have run all 25 Big Bird 10K's.

__/ USATF NAMES P. DIDDY "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK" -
NOVEMBER 4 - It's not a joke, but it is controversial. USATF
found a clause in its policy "runners of all levels" when
it named Sean (P. Diddy) Combs "Athlete of the Week" on
November 4, following P. Diddy's finish in the INC New York
City Marathon in 4:14:54. P.Diddy raised money for charity
and also brought significant media attention to the
venerable New York City race.
__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK - "If you ain't tough, you ain't
made for the marathon." --Sean (P. Diddy) Combs in the
November 3, 2003 Sports Illustrated, interview by
Yi-Wyn Yen.
__/ JEFF HOLLOBAUGH: MICHIGAN AT THE FOOTLOCKER
NATIONALS - Jeff Hollobaugh's amazing contribution to
Michigan running history on http://michtrack.org includes
this gem: Michigan at the Footlocker Nationals. Jeff lists
each Michigan participant since 1979, including Mark Smith
(1980) and Mary Peruski (1984). Michigan boys absolutely
dominated from 1995-2001: Abdul Alzindani, champion
1995; Dathan Ritzenhien, champion 1999 & 2000, Tim
Moore, champion 2001. See http://michtrack.org/past-xc.htm
The Footlocker Midwest Regionals on November 29 in
Kenosha, Wisconsin will determine which Michigan high
school athletes will go to the Footlocker Nationals in
December. Look for Amber Smith, Rachel Wittum, Nicole
Bush, Nikki Bohnsack, Duston Voss, Frank Tinney and Josh
Perrin to do well in Kenosha.
__/ BRINKER, DOYLE, MENEFEE, VERRAN FINISH IN THE
10K $$ - Richie Brinker (6th: 28:53), Kevin Doyle (11th:
29:03), Mark Menafee (13th: 29:09), and Clint Verran (15th:
29:14) won prize money at the USA Men's 10 km
Championship at the Food World Senior Bowl Charity Run,
November 8, Mobile, Alabama. All compete for the
Hansons-Brooks Olympic Distance Project. Track veteran
and Olympian Bob Kennedy took first in 28:35. Former
University of Michigan runner Katie McGregor (32:35)
took 2nd in the women's race which was not a national
championship.

__/ ONE TOUGH RUNNER: MATT HOLAPPA - We had a
chat with Matt Holappa at the Tortoise and Hare store in Ann
Arbor last week and realized that we knew only part of Matt's
Fall marathon season. At the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar
Bank Marathon, October 4, Matt took 4th place in his very
competitive 35-39 age group and 28th overall with a
2:50:09. Then, one week later Matt took it easy at the LaSalle
Bank Chicago Marathon and finished in 3:17:30.
