__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: 26TH ANNUAL ROSEVILLE BIG BIRD RUNS

Roseville Michigan's 26th annual Big Bird 10K, 4K, and 1 mile runs drew the usual loyal crowd for serious competition and the chance to win a frozen "big bird" just in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Michigan Runner cameras captured highlights of the races and the post-race "big bird" raffle.

__/ THANKSKGIVING RUNS

THANKSGIVING DAY TURKEY TROT, DETROIT, NOV. 25

Online registration is available until Saturday, November 20 for Detroit's traditional 10K and 1 Mile. Races begin early (7:15 am for the mile and 7:45 am for the 10K) so runners can watch America's Thanksgiving Day Parade-- much more fun in person than the TV version.

http://detroitturkeytrot.org/ LANSING TURKEYMAN TROT, NOV. 25

You can sleep a little later for this one. The 5K begins at 9:00 am at Lansing Community College and takes in downtown Lansing and the River Trail. Proceeds benefit the Michigan Running Foundation. A printable entry form is available at http://www.runningfoundation.com/ turkey_entry.html. FANTASY 5K, HOWELL, NOV. 26

Run the Fantasy of Lights parade route wearing luminary lights with 25,000 spectators to cheer you on. Race is at 6:00 pm, parade begins at 7:00 pm. The race starts and finishes at the First Presbyterian Church, 323 W. Grand River.

Online registration is available at http://gaultracemanagement.com.

__/ JUST CALL HIM GRAND MARSHALL

University of Michigan Assistant Coach and 2004 Olympian Tim Broe was cheering the maize and blue at Saturday's NCAA Great Lakes Regionals. Tim says he's in talking to lots of kids at the invitation of the home town schools of Peoria Illinois. He's the grand marshal of the nation's oldest Santa Clause parade in Peoria, then on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, he'll be riding a float in the East Peoria Festival of Lights parade, then provided with a police escort just in time to attend the World Premiere of Five Thousand Meters: Nothing Comes Easy at Peoria's Apollo Theater. Who says runners don't get respect?

__/ SAD NEWS: DAVE WEHRMAN PASSES AWAY

We are sad to hear this news from David Mitchell of Pinckney: "I have sad news from the running Wehrman family. Dave Wehrman, the father/husband, passed away this Monday (Nov. 8) after a run. The family had just returned from cheering Chris in the NY Marathon. . ." The Chicago Athlete's Brenda Barrera also alerted us to the news. Dave Wehrman was 56.

__/ NCAA DIVISION I CROSS COUNTRY - GREAT LAKES REGIONALS

Three Michigan's men's teams and two women's teams qualified for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, which will be in Terre Haute, Indiana, Monday, November 22. Michigan women earned an automatic invitational with their win at the Great Lakes Regionals. At- large qualifiers include Central Michigan men, Michigan men, Michigan State men and Michigan State women. In addition to the members of these teams, individual qualifier Corey Nowitzke of Eastern Michigan will also participate. Tim Ross, Caledonia HS/Missouri is also an individual qualifier as is Kate Boyles,Rochester-Adams/Cornell, four- time MHSAA cross country champion.

__/ NCAA DIVISION II CROSS COUNTRY FINALS TO BE SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 20, EVANSVILLE, INDIANA

Grand Valley State men and women, Northern Michigan women, Hillsdale men and Wayne State men will be competing at the Division II championships in Evansville, Indiana, Jenny Irwin of Ferris State qualified as an individual. __/ NCAA DIVISION III CROSS COUNTRY FINALS TO BE SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 20, EAU CLARE, WISCONSIN

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Clare is hosting the Division III Championships on Saturday. The Calvin College men's team won the Great Lakes Regional and will be competing. Tina Pike of Hope College and Graham Wellman of Depauw will be among the individuals competing.

__/ MRN AT HOME - YPSILANTI

The Michigan Running community turned out on a sparkling Saturday to watch the NCAA Division I Great Lakes Regional at Eastern Michigan's Eagle Crest Golf Course. US Olympic trials steeplechase finalist Jordan Desilets drove the lead vehicle and 2003 Great Lakes Regional champion Gavin Thompson was on hand to cheer on his former teammates.

We had the pleasure of meeting Nick Willis's dad, Richard, who is a visiting professor at Grand Valley State University this Fall. Too bad that Nick's injury is forcing him to sit out this season.

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD - ROSEVILLE

Some of Michigan running's great rivalries were in evidence at the Roseville Big Bird races, Sunday. Michigan Grand Masters Jim Carlton, Doug Goodhue and Gerard Malaczynski are among the most competive 60-64 age group runners in the US. We also caught up with Maggie Zidar and Donna Olson, friends and rivals in many races over the years. Maggie is defying the effects of age: after she ran the Big Bird 10K, she ran "The Burg" 5K in the afternoon. Maggie also ran marathons #97, 98, and 99 under 3 hours 45 minutes in three consecutive weeks last month: Columbus, Detroit and Grand Rapids. She's planning the 100th next Spring in London.

__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES

-- Rebecca Walter, Michigan, Great Lakes Regional NCAA Cross Country Championships, 20:01, 1st.
