__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: MICHIGAN HS RUNNER OF
THE YEAR: AMBER SMITH - Amber Smith of
Ishpeming in Michigan's Upper Peninsula reached the
Footlocker finals as a sophomore, then finished fifth in the
2002 Footlocker Cross Country Finals as a junior. Michigan
Runner TV met with Amber in the beginning of her senior
year in Ishpeming. She'll be competing in the Footlocker
Midwest Regionals in Kenosha, Wisconsin, November 29.

__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK - "I'd actually never competed
against anybody in track - in a close race."
-- Amber Smith on her first experience at the Adidas Outdoor
Championships, June 2003.
__/ NICOLE BUSH CONQUERS LAINGSBURG XC
COURSE AT THE BURG RUN - It might have been a case
of great minds thinking alike as Michigan Runner editor,
Scott Sullivan (Wyoming), MR writer Daniel Kelsey (Martin),
MR photographer Ted Nykiel (Cedar Springs), MR publisher
Art McCafferty (Ypsilanti) and MR online editor Jennie
McCafferty (Ypsilanti) all showed up at "The Burg" run
in Laingsburg last Sunday. We all enjoyed the trails of the
Laingsburg High School Cross Country Course (1 loop for
the 5K and 2 loops for the 10K). Race Director Chris Lantis
has created a fun event with some serious competition.
Portage Invitational Division III winner Nicole Bush
demonstrated that she is back after her collapse during this
year's state meet. She took first in the 5K with an amazing
17:48. Other results: 5K - Jeff Crowe, Grande Ledge, 17:12;
10K - Matthew Kaczor, Mount Pleasant, 32:17; 10K - Ellen
Erhardt, Grand Rapids, 42:57.
__/ __/ DETROIT THANKSGIVING TURKEY TROT & NEW
MASHED-POTATO MILE - The Parade Company welcomes
Fifth Third Bank as the official sponsor of the 21st Annual
Turkey Trot and **new** this year... the Mashed Potato Mile!
You can do the Mashed Potato Mile as a warm-up for
Michigan's largest 10K run along the route of America's
Thanksgiving Day Parade. Part of the fun of this tradition
is seeing all the other families for whom the race and the
parade are a tradition, too.
The Mashed Potato Mile begins at 7:30 a.m. with the Turkey
Trot immediately following at 8:30am. Starts and finishes at
Wayne State University's Matthaei Building, north of Warren
Avenue, west of the Lodge. The Mashed Potato Mile starts
on Warren Avenue and follows the last mile of the 10K
course. Entry forms are available at Fifth Third Banks or
online at http://motorcitystriders.com/apps/turkapp.htm.
__/ LANSING TURKEYMAN TROT, THANKSGIVING DAY -
Chuck Block's third annual Turkeyman Trot starts
at 9:00 am at Lansing Community College, on Grand
Avenue. between Shiawasse and Saginaw Road.
The parking is free at the LCC Parking Garage on Grand
Avenue. The scenic 5K takes in downtown Lansing and the
River Trail. Entry forms are available online at
http://playmakers.com.
