__/ FIFTH THIRD BANK THANKSGIVING TURKEY TROT, DETROIT, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23 - If you've been thinking about joining the tradition of running the Fifth Third Bank Thanksgiving Turkey Trot then staying on for America's Thanksgiving Parade, this is the year to do it. The weather will be perfect and the Parade is celebrating it's 80th anniversary. Michigan's largest 10K begins at 8:00 am and a new 5K called the Stuffing Strut goes off at the same time. The kid's Mashed Potato Mile is earlier at 7:30 am. The Parade begins at 9:20 am. Online registration is closed, but you can register at Cobo Center Wednesday at Noon or on race day.

__/ FANTASY 5K, HOWELL, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24 - The holiday lights of Howell's Fantasy of Lights Parade set the atmosphere of this festive 5K. Participants wear jingle bells and a few hardy souls will demonstrate just how tough Michigan Runners are by wearing running clothes more suited to a tropical climate. The race begins at 6:00 pm and the parade follows at 7:00. You'll want to check out the Gingerbread House Display at 118 Grand River Avenue, too.

Online Registration is open until Friday, November 24, 9:00 am: http://gaultracemanagement.com

__/ PHIL CUTRARA ILLUSTRATES MICHIGAN RUNNING EVENT CALENDAR 2007 - On a visit to one of our favorite local running stores last week, we discovered Phil Cutrara's brand new "Michigan Running Event Calendar, 2007". Phil's colorful artwork illustrates each month and several hundred of your favorite races are listed on their dates. We snapped up the entire stock in the store that day, but more are available at local running stores. You can also contact Cutrara Creations, bobalou@cnonline.net or (616) 669-2107. For a sample of Phil's art, see Scott Sullivan's article: http://www.michiganrunner.net/features/cutrara0306.html

__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: ROSEVILLE BIG BIRD - The friendly town of Roseville turns out in force to put on the annual Big Bird Run. The Mayor, members of the the Optimist Club, the high school band, high school cross country athletes in costumes, and Panera Bread bagels (the best bagel you could ever eat) are all part of the fun. You can check it all out on Michigan Runner TV (you'll have to trust us about the bagels): http://michiganrunner.tv/2006bigbird/

__/ FOUR MICHIGAN STORES VOTED AMONG TOP 50 IN US - The Running industry got together last week for The Running Event conference in Austin Texas. Among the festivities were awards for the top 50 running stores in the US. We'll have more on these awards in a future issue, but we'd like to congratulate the four Michigan stores among the top 50 (only California had more than 4):

Hansons Running Shops

Playmakers

Running Fit

Gazelle Sports

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD, TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA - At times the NCAA Division I Cross Country Meet looks like a Michigan Festival. John and Anne Gault time the race, two time Detroit Free Press Marathon winner Gordon Minty manages the finish line, Keith Hanson and Tony Mifsud are among the spectators, and John Brabbs and Carter Sherline photograph the races. Michigan Runner TV was there, too; videos will be available in a few days.
