__/__/__ __/ 5/3 BANK THANKSGIVING TURKEY TROT, DETROIT,
THANKSGIVING DAY--The Mashed Potato Mile begins at 7:30 at Cobo
Center and the 10K begins at 8:00 am. You can still sign up on race day
at Cobo Center for one of Michigan's wonderful traditions. Running by
the crowd waiting for America's Thanksgiving Parade is part of the fun.
New this year is the costume competition with judging beginning at 7:45
am. http://detroitturkeytrot.org.
__/ FANTASY 5K, HOWELL, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 25 - Runners are
the "first float" in Howell's Fantasy of Lights parade as each participant
gets luminary lights to wear for the 5K run. Entry fees includes gloves for
the first 1,000 runners to register. The race begins at 6:00 pm; race day
registration and packet pickup begin at 4:00 pm at the First Presbyterian
Church. The Fantasy of Lights Parade follows at 7:00 pm. http://

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD -- TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA - Indiana State
University hosted the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships at
the LaVerne Gibson Cross Country Course for the third time in four
years. John Gault says the NCAA Division I Cross Country
Championships are his favorite competition. I'd have to agree that these
are, indeed, exciting races with traditions, weather, surprising upsets
and emotion figuring into the mix.
Wisconsin men were probably the most elated team of the day, winning
the team title after their surprising loss to Colorado last year. Eastern
Michigan men had reason to be elated, too, finishing 24th--several
placed above their rank of 30 going into the competition. Look for
Michigan Runner TV shows later this month to include Tim Broe's
interviews with Simon Bairu, Joanna Nilsson, Jerry Schumacher, Kalin
Toedebusch, Dathan Ritzenhein, Gavin Thompson, and Karen Harvey.

__/ JACKSON'S FALLING WATER TRAIL TO EXPAND The Friends of
the Falling Water Trail in Jackson, Michigan, will receive $10,000 to help
expand their local trail system.
This grant will leverage state funding to grade and pave a 10.5-mile
abandoned railbed from Jackson to Concord, Michigan, providing a safe
place for bicyclists and runners. It will also connect to an existing 3.5-
mile pathway that spans the town of Jackson, enhancing opportunities
for bike commuters, runners and walkers. The trail could be finished as
early as fall of 2006. http://www.fitnesscouncil.org/fallingwater/
