__/ LANDON PEACOCK, DAN ROBERTS ARE FOOTLOCKER FINALISTS - Landon Peacock, a senior at Cedar Springs High School, earned a trip to Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals, which takes place Saturday, Dec. 10 at Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif. Peacock and eventual winner Mohamud Ige of Denver led the Midwest Regional race at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Saturday, November 26. Peacock finished in second in 15:01--just 3 seconds behind Ige's winning 14:58. Earlier this month, Peacock won the Division II race and had the fastest time of the day at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Lower Peninsula Cross Country Finals.

Dan Roberts, formerly of Vicksburg, Michigan, finished 6th to become a Footlocker finalist for the second year. Roberts, a senior, is not attending school in Crested Butte, Colorado.

Rebekah Smeltzer and Molly Waterhouse--both Footlocker Finalists in 2004-- did compete, but neither qualified this year. The top Michigan girl to finish was Mikal Beckman, a junior from Newaygo, who finished 13th.

For complete results, see http://footlockercc.com/2005/midwest.shtml.

__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES - ROAD RACES

Michigan Runners tore up the roads on Thanksgiving Day:

-- Nick Willis won the prestigious 69th Manchester Road Race on Thanksgiving Day. The not-quite 5mile race attracts a world class field and Willis beat Alistair Cragg by 6 seconds. More than 12,000 compete in this Connecticut classic.

-- Chad Johnson and Melissa White, both members of the Hansons/ Brooks Distance Project, won Melissa's home-town Thanksgiving Day "Race with Grace 10K" in Greece, New York. Melissa's 34:35 broke the course record and Chad's 30:30 was a minute and a half ahead of last year's winner.

-- Brian Sell and Josh Moen of the Hansons Brooks Distance Project helped the US team to third place-- their best finish ever-- in the Hanji Aoki Cup 2005 International Chiba Ekiden in Chiba, Japan, November 23. Sell ran a PR 28:28 for his 10K leg and Moen anchored the six- person team with a 21:06 for 7.2K.

1. KEN 1:57:06

2. JPN 1:58:58

__/ MAY IS THE BUSIEST MONTH FOR ROAD RACING--We were a little surprised when we counted events in Michigan Runner magazine's 2005 calendar. The calendar includes road races in Michigan and adjoining areas including Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin and Ontario. May had the most events with 137 and August was the fifth busiest--behind May, June, July and September. Saturday, September 10 was the busiest day with 32.
