MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: TIM BROE INTERVIEWS DATHAN RITZENHEIN-- Tim Broe, Olympian and US 4K Cross Country Champion, caught up with Dathan Ritzenhein at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Terre, Haute, Indiana. Ritzenhein, also an Olympian in 2004, currently is the US 12K Cross Country Champion. http://michiganrunner.tv/2005ritz/

__/ RUN LIKE THE DICKENS, HOLLY, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10-- Holly, Michigan takes advantage of its name to put on the wonderful Dickens Festival from Thanksgiving through December 25. The festival re-creates the Dickensian period with carolers, town crier, strolling characters, skits, bell choirs, street hawkers, carriage rides, and for the third year now, the Run Like the Dickens. This year race director Rob Basydlo added an 8K run to the 5K run and walk. There also are Tiny Tim Trots in 3 distances for the younger ones. Events begin at 9:00 am at the Karl Ricter Campus. The race goes through scenic downtown Holly and you'll want to return after the race for shopping in beautifully decorated Holly stores. Register online or print out an entry form: http://runlikethedickens.com.

__/ USATF ANNOUNCES AMERICA'S RUNNING ROUTES

"Thursday, December 1, 2005 America's Running Routes to serve as the largest searchable database of running routes in the U.S. Using cutting edge technology provided by Google Maps, USA Track & Field (USATF) has developed a revolutionary service, America's Running Routes, that allows runners to map and measure their favorite running routes and then save them to what will be the largest searchable database of running routes in the U.S. America's Running Routes provides the running community with an array of functionality and shows USATF's continued commitment to offer runners of all ages and abilities information and services to enhance each running experience. Ever wonder how far your run was? Just visit America's Running Routes, map out your run using satellite views, and the distance will be displayed, including mile markers along the route. Think others might enjoy your running route? Click the "save" button, and your route will be added to the database for others to enjoy. To learn more about America's Running Routes, visit http:// www.usatf.org, and then click on the America's Running Routes icon."

When your editor first checked this exciting new service on December 1, there were no Michigan running routes listed yet, although there were several in Indiana. Today, there are 56 Michigan routes and hundreds in other states.

__/ IT'S OFFICIAL: PAUL AUFDEMBERGE'S 10,000 METER AMERICAN TRACK RECORD-- Paul Aufdemberge's 30:04 on the track in Hillsdale on April 9, 2005 has been listed as a "provisional" American masters record. Not any more-- USATF made it official at its annual meeting this week. You can see Paul's record at http://www.usatf.org/statistics/records/

__/ FRONT LINE RACING TEAM ANNOUNCES BOARD OF DIRECTORS--Fred Vanhala has been getting Michigan runners together in Front Line Racing teams and relays-- pretty much all by himself since 1999. On December 4, Fred announced a brand new Board of Directors: Julie Winter, Steve Miles, Eric Green, Ron Buchanan and Fred Vanhala. According to Fred's Front Line Racing Team Newsletteer, "All have been runners forever - some since God invented running." For more information about the Front Line Racing Team and to sign up for the fun and informative newsletter, see http://www.frontlineracingteam.com/

__/ HOLIDAYS LIGHTS! CAMERAS! ACTION! - Our cameras visited the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot in Downtown Detroit, Park Place Hotel, Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City and listened to the choirs of Grosse Pointe and Ypslianti High School in bringing you this holiday show of music and lights. Enjoy. http://michigantravel.tv/2003holidays/

__/ USATF HONORS JERRY JOHNCOCK AND MATTI KILPELAINEN-- USATF honored masters athletes at its annual awards breakfast on Saturday, December 3. -- Jerry Johncock of Grand Rapids got the nod as "Outstanding Athlete, Masters Long Distance Running" in the 75-79 age group. -- Matti Kilpelainen of Ypsilanti was honored for his performances in Men's Track and Field.

__/ RYAN LAMPPA AMPLIFIES US EFFORT AT CHIBA EKIDEN-- Last week we reported on the US team's best finish ever in the Hanji Aoki Cup 2005 International Chiba Ekiden in Chiba, Japan. Brian Sell and Josh Moen were members of that team. Ryan Lamppa, Running USA Media Director, emailed an amplification of that report:

"Also on the below, the U.S. men's team set a U.S. record (6-leg) with their 1:59:08 and technically, it was the best U.S. "men's" finish at Chiba as the U.S. women won the silver medal there in 1988.

Previous record, 2:03:59, Team USA, IAAF World Road Relay, Madeira, Portugal, May 10, 1992."
