NEW YEAR'S EVE FAMILY FUN RUN AND WALK TO CELEBRATE 38
YEARS ON BELLE ISLE
=======================================================
===================
Since 1970 kids in Michigan have been getting their first experience
running a race in the New Year's Eve Family Fun Run and Walk on
Belle Isle in Detroit. Every kid who finishes the one mile race gets a
trophy to go along with the memory. It's not unusual to see three
generations participating in the one mile run or walk, the 4 mile run or
walk or both.
This year, Fifth Third Bank, with a track record of supporting memorable
Michigan races, is presenting sponsor for this traditional event. Belle
Isle, Detroit's historic island park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted,
has undergone a recent face lift. Belle Isle Runners host and Jeanne
Bocci, as she has from the beginning, directs. Events are Monday,
December 31, 2007 at Belle Isle Casino. Children's 1 Mile Run/Walk
and Open 1 Mile Run / Walk are at 3:00 pm;
4 Mile Race Walk and Fitness Walk begin at 3:05 pm; 4 Mile Run is at
4:00 pm. Race Flyer: http://michiganrunner.com/belleisle/nye_sm.pdf

MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: USATF NATIONAL CLUB CROSS COUNTRY

=======================================================
============
Tough and talented Michigan runners made a great showing on the
slippery and muddy course at Voice of America Park in West Chester,
Ohio. Front Line Racing Team's took the Masters Women's title and the
Masters Men's 60+ title. Front Line Racing Team's Tracy Lokken was
second in the Masters Men's race and Tortoise and Hare's Monica
Joyce was 11th in the Open Women's race.
USATF doesn't let us video the race, so Michigan Runner TV is
presenting three interviews. All three are on youtube.com. Search

====================
Maverick Darling's 15:23 was good for 10th overall in the competitive
field at the Footlocker Cross Country Championships, Balboa Park in
San Diego on December 3. Darling, an Ovid-Elsie senior, helped the
Midwest Boys to the team championship and and he was named All-

NO HEAT THE STREETS IN 2008; HOPE TO RETURN IN 2009
===================================================
Race Direcctor Stephen Moran told Michigan Runner that Heat the
Streets, the popular February race in Detroit will not be held in 2008.
Moran hopes that Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth will return in
2009. The race has raised funds to help folks with those tough winter
heating bills.

MRN ON THE ROAD - WEST CHESTER, OHIO
====================================
Having the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships in
nearby Ohio certainly helped the turnout from Michigan. In addition to
the large representation from Front Line Racing Team, other Michigan
teams were Playmakers, Ann Arbor Track Club, Tortoise and Hare, and
Running Fit's North Wind Running Club. Among the spectators was
Michigan Runner columnist Scott Hubbard and legendary announcer for
many Michigan races and track meets. We wish Scott had been
announcing this race.

congenital cardiovascular abnormality. Althouth we still don't know
exactly what happened with Ryan Shay, this article explores the issues
involved. Letsrun.com alerted us to the article.
