__/ NEW YEARS EVE FAMILY RUN RUN AND WALK, DETROIT-BELLE ISLE, SUN, DEC. 31 - Generations of families have celebrated the New Year with this classic Michigan race. Kids 1 mile begins at 3:00 pm; 4 mile walk goes at 3:05 and the 4 mile run begins at 3:30. All races start and finish at the Belle Isle Casino and parking on Belle Isle is free. __/ LAURIE DECKER IS MICHIGAN RUNNER OF THE YEAR 2006 - Michigan Runner magazine announced Laurie Decker of Cadillac, Michigan as the Michigan Runner of the Year 2006 in the January/ February 2007 issue. This is the third time the master runner has won the award; she also won in 2002 and 2004. Former Michigan Runner editor, Dave Foly, also of Cadillac, wrote the feature on Laurie. Awards are based on points awarded for placing in the Michigan Runner Race Series.
