__/ NEW YEAR'S EVE FAMILY FUN RUN AND WALK, BELLE ISLE, DETROIT - Jeanne Bocci and her family have kept this tradition going for 36 years. Many folks who were kids when they ran their first races here now bring their own children. The New Year's Eve event features a trophy for every kid and a smile for every parent. Registration and packet pick-up are at Brodhead Armory, 1/4 mile East of the MacArthur/Belle Isle Bridge. Free parking is available on Belle Isle or at UAW HQ on East Jefferson. Starting times are 3:00 for the kids' run, 3:30 for the 4 Mile run and 3:35 for the 4 Mile racewalk. Race entry forms are online at http:// michiganrunner.com/belleisle/

__/ RITZ RACING IN BELFAST AND EDINBURGH - Dathan Ritzenhein returns to Belfast on January 7 to defend the title he won last year at the Belfast International Cross Country Race. The next week Ritz will take on Kenenisa Bekele, the reigning king of cross country, at the VisitScotland Great Edinburgh International X Country. For more on the Edinburgh race, see http://www.onrunning.com/events/event.asp?id=5.

__/ LAUREN WILLIAMS SUB-ll TRANSLATES INTO $10,000 FOR CHARITY - "Sub-11 has a great meaning for World 100m champion Lauryn Williams. '10 something' is the time she hopes to run whenever she competes against world-class competition in the 100m. This end of year holiday season, however, it also translates into the amount of money she will donate to 20 deserving families in the Miami, Florida, area - a total of $10,000.

"Williams is working with radio station Hot 105, WHQT, in Hollywood, Fla., to donate $500 each to 20 families in need this holiday season. 'It's my way of acknowledging those less fortunate who have suffered through the devastation of the hurricane season this summer,' said Williams, a 2004 graduate from the University of Miami. 'I've been very fortunate to achieve a few of my dreams this year,' she continues. 'This is the least I can do to show my support for my community and fulfill some of their holiday wishes.'" -- USA Track & Field News and Notes, Volume 6, Number 90, http:// usatf.org

__/ TRAVERSE CITY TRACK CLUB WILL HOST BART YASSO - Dave Taylor of the Traverse City Track Club has announced the speaker for the Club's annual "Legends" speaker series. "The speaker will be Bart Yasso of Runner's World. Bart travels the world and runs in the world's biggest and most unique races. He is also a competitive runner and has raced on all seven continents, 4 Ironmans, and several solo bike rides across the country. An experienced speaker, he will provide a great slide show, entertaining program and great training feedback. The program will take place at the NMC Maritime Academy Haggerty Center, along Munson Ave., near the Bayshore Resort. The date is January 20."

You can catch Michigan Runner's interview with Bart Yasso at the 2004 Toronto Marathon http://michiganrunner.tv/2004torontomarathon/.

The Legend's speaker series is the training kick-off for the Club's annual Bayshore Marathon. The Club's annual Frozen Foot Race will take place the next morning. Details will be available soon at http:// www.tctrackclub.com/
