__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK - "We want people to get in shape, we want people to stay healthy, and running is the best way to do it." -- Governor Jennifer Granholm, after finishing the Mashed Potato Mile in 9 minutes at the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot, in an interview with Jennie McCafferty.

__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: DETROIT THANKSGIVING DAY TURKEY TROT WITH GOVERNOR GRANHOLM- The 21st annual Detroit Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot, sponsored by Fifth Third Bank and The Parade Company, attracted more than 5000 runners for the 10K Run and Mashed Potato Mile.

Governor Jennifer Granholm and her family ran the mile; the governor finished the mile in nine minutes; her daughter Cecelia Mulhern, 12, finished in 8:24.

__/ FOOTLOCKER REGIONALS RESULTS ARE HAPPY FOR TWO MICHIGAN RUNNERS - Neil Naughton and Justin Switzer surprised the analysts by finishing 5th and 8th at the Footlocker Regionals on Saturday, November 29 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. No Michigan girls will be going to the finals. Neither Nikki Bohnsack nor Amber Smith will return for their senior years; both qualified in their sophomore and junior years. __/ OLYMPIC MARATHON QUALIFYING TIMES ADJUSTED - In welcome news for America's elite marathoners, the IAAF announced changes in the qualifying times for the Athens Olympic Marathon. The new lower qualifying times are 2:37 for women (down from 2:32) and 2:15 for men (down from 2:12). As a result Michiganders Kyle Baker (2:14:13), Clint Verran (2:14:17), and Ryan Shay (2:14:41) have all met the qualifying standard. The change is significant in that the chances that the U.S. will send three marathoners in each of the men's and women's marathons to Athens are much better.

__/ USATF NATIONAL CLUB CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS - Defending champions Hansons-Brooks and Tortoise and Hare are sending teams to Greensboro, North Carolina Saturday to compete in the annual USATF National Club Cross Country Championships. Leigh Daniel, Carley Greytock, Laura Murphy, Jackie Rzepecki, Melissa White will run for the first Hansons-Brooks women's team.
