__/ RUNNING NETWORK TV PRESENTS THE 2003 WALT DISNEY WORLD MARATHON

The Michigan Runner along with the other 20 plus publications of The Running Network, produced the first Running Network Internet Television show this week. An eight minute show on this year's Walt Disney Marathon is now appearing on the Michigan Runner site http:// michiganrunner.net and will move to the national page this week.

The Running Network has become an advertising and editorial force within the running community. They are challenging Runner's World in advertising revenue and editorial impact. Their new website tracked over 20 million impressions last year and is increasing all of the time.

The Michigan Runner, moved their site to the network this year and have enjoyed an increase in activity. In addition to the new look, website users, can now access our searchable race result section. The national site is at http://runningnetwork.com. -- Art McCafferty

__/ BIRTH OF A RACE: GALYAN'S NORTHVILLE SOLSTICE RUN

NORTHVILLE (1/14/030--It is not often that a press conference opens with a saxophone player, but the one announcing the Galyan's Northville Solstice Run did. Tommy Vale of Tommy Vale and the Torpedoes, will be one of the major attractions of the new Galyan's Northville Solstice Run slated for this June 21.

The race has a very formidable team, with veteran runner and course designer Mark Cryderman on board, along with Doug Kurtis and a lot of fine folks from the Northville Parks and Recreation Department. Chris Ewing, Galyan's Community Commitment Manager, was also on hand to offer his assistance. The event will consist of a 5K run and walk and a kids Fun Run. Race organizers are expecting a thousand runners to toe the starting lines.

Comcast has agreed to tape the show and put it on the schedule of its 59 cities in Michigan. Also, WFUM radio was on hand and will be providing some promotion. For further information visit http://northvilleparksandrec.org or register online at http://signmeupsports.com/15969. - Art McCafferty

__/ LAZAROFF, DORR, AGNEW ARE "PERFECT 10" MICHIGANDERS AT DISNEY MARATHON

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL (1/12/03)--It wasn't always easy for Deborah Lazaroff to keep her streak of Disney marathons going. "One year, three days before the Disney Marathon, I was in the elevator at Coronado Springs Resort and decided to do a little light stretching before a three- mile run," said Lazaroff, 47, of Jackson, Mich." Suddenly I twisted my back while bending down. If there was anything 'magical' about that marathon, it was the fact that I ran and walked the whole thing to keep my streak going. Persistence won." Lazaroff finished the 10th Walt Disney World Marathon in 3:35:54, the third Michigan woman to finish. Robert Dorr, 50, Tipton, 3:53:12 and David Agnew, 52, Clarkston, 6:28:47 also kept their perfect Disney streaks going.

Wearing the distinctive red and yellow Hanson's singlet, Jonathan Sieber finished 14th in 2:37:50, the first Michigan marathon finisher. Barbara Dosier's 3:30:37 was the first Michigan woman. In the half marathon, the Hanson singlets dominated the starting line and the results did, too. Hanson runner Tracey Rizer's 1:30:43 was good for 7th overall in the half marathon. Kevin Hanson, 1;15:46, was 3rd overall, Brett Sanborn, 1:17:30, was 4th overall, and Keith Hanson, 1:20:22, was 7th overall. 6,000 half marathoners and 16,000 marathoners participated in the 10th annual event.
