Super Bowl 5K in Novi, Michigan on Super Sunday, Ed Kozloff, Tony

__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: PAN AM JUNIOR ATHLETIC
CHAMPIONSHIPS, 2005
After losing a couple of seasons to injuries, 2000 Olympian Adam
Goucher is coming back-- Goucher won the USA 4K Cross Country
Championship at Van Courtland Park in New York last weekend.
Michigan Runner TV caught up with Goucher and with Canadian Junior
Record holder in the mile, Mike Woods, during the Pan Am Junior
Games last July. The city of Windsor, Ontario, and the University of
Windsor hosted the 2005 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships
in July 2005. http://michiganrunner.tv/2006panam/
__ / MORE VALENTINES
We heard from a few running couples and wish them all a belated
Happy Valentines Day:
-- My wife Kathy and I have ran races together for every one of our 27
years together, not to mention the 10 miles we ran together on our
wedding day in 79 ... we haven't won a couples race in a while but I
treasure the WBloom and Volkslauffe trophies from the past ...
run forever,
Randy Step
-- Please don't forget about us..... David and Eve Howell.
We will be approaching our 6th wedding anniversary. How time flies.
Eve
-- Another running couple: Kim Roulston and Bill Smith. Kim lives in
Windsor. I used to write articles for MR circa 1970-1990 when Mike Duff
and I were commnity education directors, then elementary principals
together in Farmington. Kim and I are engaged and looking forward to
running together forever. Please say hi to Art for me.
Cheers,
Bill Smith

__/ NOTES ON THE WINTER OLYMPICS -- Treat to watch Brian
Williams of CBC and get the more International Canadian. When the
Italian men won the long-track pursuit gold medal we heard the winners
announced at the stadium in Italian. You absolutely haven't seen a
medal ceremony until you've seen the Italian national anthem being
sung by everyone in Torino's town square.
-- Letters to the Detroit News inspired by the question "Ice dancing sure
is sexy, but is it sport?" included this gem:
"Ice dancing is no more of a sport than golf is a sport. A sport requires
contact."
Wonder what Lauren Williams, Brian Sell, Clint Verran, Linsey Gallo,
Tim Broe, Nate Brannen, Paul Terek and other champions in track and
field would say about that.
-- Speaking of champions: the Oscar-nominated movie, "Munich", deals
with the terroism at the 1972 Olympic games. Frank Shorter won his
gold medal in the marathon at those games. Yesterday, National Public
Radio featured Frank Shorter's essay about those dramatic events. In
case you missed it, you can hear it online: http://www.npr.org/templates/
story/story.php?storyId=5226092.
__/ MRN ON THE ROAD
-- TORINO -- 1988 Olympian Gary Morgan is our man in Torino. Gary is
reporting for Michigan Runner's sister publication: Michigan Skier as
well as for Michigan Runner.
"TORINO (Feb. 17, 2006)
Hello, Jennie,
It's been a blast here in Torino. Went to opening ceremonies. What a
fantastic show. Been to speed skating, cross country, downhill, and a
concert. You and Art would love the Media Center here. It's awesome.
I'm staying here untill the 25th. I'm having too much FUN.
Talk soon, GARY"
-- BRIGHTON -- We enjoyed Bill Squires' remarks at the Runnin' Gear
Store in Brighton earlier this evening. Squires dispensed sage advice
with an engaging and informal style. He's on the road promoting his
philosophy, his coaching system and his book, Speed with Endurance".
He says he doesn't need the money, but he does want to see Americans
running winning performances. Among the audience were members of
the 2005 Champion Pinckney High School Cross Country Team and
their coach, Tom Carney.
__/ RELAY TEAM FOR GREAT LAKES RELAY - Ralph Judd is looking
for members for a special team:
"We would like to have relay team entered in the Great Lakes Relay.
This is an annual even held in July 14-16 starting in Tawas and going to
Mackinaw City. The teams each have 10 persons on a team of both men
and women. I would like to form a team of cancer survivors who have
had breast, prostate, melanoma, uterine, stomach, ect. cancers and are
currently running. Speed is not as much of a requirement as willingness
to run on the team as a cancer survivor. Those persons who are
interested please contact the following:
Ralph Judd, 313-965-2770 work
313-530-5082 work cell
248-356-825 home
Email: Ralph.judd@36thdistrict court.org
We would like to publicize cancer survivors by putting together a
team of runners who have had various forms of cancer and are willing to
run on a team. I have run myself on various teams since 1990 and also
have had melanoma. Both men and women are welcome to be on the
team."
__/ MARTIAN INVATION OF RACES UPDATE:
"NEW LOCATION - NEW DATE - NEW EVENT - NEW COURSE-
PRIZE MONEY!
The 2006 Martian Invasion of Races has moved to Dearborn Heights, MI
with race headquarters and expo at the runner friendly Henry Ford CC
Dearborn Heights Center. Expo, Friday March 31st and race day,
Saturday, April 1, 2006. We've added the Meteor 10k with $3,200 in
prize money! The course has also changed so that 100% of the half
marathon and 10K will be on the Hines Dr. (Which will be closed so we
will be traffic free.) The course is flat and fast with aid stations every two
miles and many spectator spots along the way. Late registration, finish
line food, and awards will all be held INDOORS at the Dearborn Heights
Center gym. Au Bon Pain is providing our finish line food so it will be
fantastic! We've got Mizuno onboard again this year giving away shoes
to the overall male and female winners in both the Marathon and Half
Marathon and to the best dressed Martian out there! Michigan Runner
has agreed to sponsor this event and will be filming so be sure to ham it
up
for the camera! Other sponsors include Absopure (giving away water
bottles at the finish), Ultima, Michigan Governors Council and Wayne
County Parks.
Interested in volunteering? Email tami@runningfit.com. All volunteers
will receive a very cool "Obey Me" hooded sweatshirt and comp entry
into any Running Fit event (excluded DWD TEAM event). Run
Earthling!"

INS REPORT 2/8/06
"By Susan L. Oppat
Ann Arbor News Staff Reporter
So far, Jonathan Joseph Bugajski is only charged with two home
invasions in Oakland County's Milford Township. Police say that is just
the beginning.
By the time they are through, investigators believe, the 19-year-old
Livingston County man will be facing a slew of additional charges in at
least two counties, including theft of U.S. mail, illegal possession of
firearms, larceny from motor vehicles and maintaining a
methamphedimine lab. Police say they have evidence linking him to
dozens of burglaries and thefts, including a rash of smash-and-grab
larcenies from vehicles at area Metroparks and state parks.
Metroparks Police Chief Howard Chanter said he hoped Bugajski would
be arraigned on the charges from thefts at Huron Meadows Metropark in
Brighton Township and Kensington Metropark near Milford late Monday
or today."
