MEN'S MARATHON - THE RACE
The pre-race favorites Alan Culpepper, Meb Keflezighi and
Dan Browne finished first, second and third at the U.S.
Olympic Team Trials, Men's Marathon, but Brian Sell, Trent
Briney and Clint Verran of the Hansons-Brooks Distance
Project provided the pace and the surprises.

__/ FIFTH THIRD SOLSTICE RUN ANNOUNCES $6,000
PRIZE PURSE
The Fifth Third Bank Solstice Run, slated for June 26 in
Northville, is offering $1,200 (cash/gift awards) payout to the
top 5K Run male and female finishers. Second and third
place and overall master and female winners will receive
$400, $250 and $250 respectively in cash/gift awards.
The Solstice Run will also feature a new Mustang Mile event
on a fast, certified mile course. The top male and female
winners will receive $350 (cash/gift awards). Second and
third and overall master winners will receivew $200, $150
and $150 respectively in cash/gift awards.
Course records set in the 5K Run will receive $100 gift
awards. Men who can beat Richie Brinker's 14:29 in the
inaugural 2003 event, or women who can beat Laurie
Decker's 18:25, will set a new course record.
Fifth Third Solstice Run Executive Race Director Alan
Whitehead says that race participants always enjoy seeing
great runners perform in their own event and this increased
prize purse for both events will help attract and reward world
class and top performing athletes.
__/ PLANNING AHEAD: ST. PATRICK'S PARADE
CORKTOWN RACES, DETROIT, MARCH 14
Mark Scoles and Kathy Rink led hundreds of runners
through Detroit's Corktown area, near the old Tiger Stadium,
and son some of the city's St. Patrick's Day Parade route
last year. Look for more of the same at this year's 22nd
annual four mile-run, 1.5 mile walk and quarter- mile kids'
run.
Michigan Runner cameras will be on hand to greet you.
Afterwards, wathch for the wearing (and drinking) of the
green as runners belly up at many a downtown pub to watch

__/ THIS IS THE WEEKEND TO WATCH SOME GREAT
COLLEGE TRACK IN MICHIGAN: UNIVERSITY OF
MICHIGAN HOSTS BIG TEN MEN'S INDOOR
CHAMPIONSHIPS, SATURDAY & SUNDAY
University of Michigan will host the Big Ten Men's Indoor
Championships this weekend Saturday, February 28 and
Sunday, February 29. Doors open at the U-M Indoor Track
Building at 8:00 am each day. The 3,000m run at
approximately 4:40 pm and the Distance Medley Relay at
5:00 pm will conclude Saturday's events. On Sunday, the
Mile Run final is at approximately 1:50 pm. The 5,000m run
at approximately 3:00 pm and the 4 x 400 relay at
approximately 3:25 pm will be the last two events before the
awards presentation ceremony on Sunday. The Big Ten
Women's Indoor Championships will be at the University of
Iowa this weekend.
EASTERN MICHIGAN HOSTS MID AMERICAN
CONFERENCE INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS, FRIDAY &
SATURDAY
-- Both men's and women's Mid American Conference
Indoor Championships will be at the Bob Parks Track,
Bowen Field House, Friday, February 27 and Saturday,
February 28. Events begin at 10:30 am Friday and 11:00 am
Saturday. Friday events conclude at approximately 5:50 pm
with the men's and women's distance medley relay.
Saturday events include the men's Mile Run at
approximately 1:10 pm and the women's mile at 1:30 pm.
You could see an indoor sub 4:00 mile as Eastern
Michigan's Gavin Thompson and Jordan Desilets both ran
sub 4:00 miles at Notre Dame's Meyo Mile on February 7.
