__/ TREEETOPS AMAZING RACE - Last weekend, Treetops resort staged its third version of the Amazing Race. This year 12 teams of 4 skiers and boarders participated over two days in a series of contests, battles of wits, singing, and games. Speed was an issue down the slopes, finding a video, making pizza and getting from one venue to the next. Lots of running was involved-- sometimes on ski boots, and sometimes smaller team members got piggy-back rides. The whole thing was an absolute blast and we'll have a Michigan Skier TV show available next week. Treetops is considering a summer version of the event and we think runners could not only have a lot of fun, but could also have a good chance to win terrific prizes.

__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER ANNUAL CALENDAR ISSUE AVAILABLE IN RUNNING STORES - The March / April 2007 issue of the Michigan Runner magazine is Volume 29, Issue Number 1 and one you'll definitely want to read and to have:

-- COVER STORY: Greg Meyer and the Fifth Third River Bank Run Will Celebrate 30th Anniversary. Carter Sherline took the photo of Greg with one of his seven Calder Old Kent River Bank Run champion trophies. Michigan Runner TV will air an interview with Greg about the River Bank Run during March.

-- MICHIGAN MASTERS ARE NATIONAL X-C CHAMPIONS - Fred Vanhala writes about the incredible performances of the all-star Front Line Racing Team he assembled for the December 2006 race.

-- BEST OF TIMES 2006 - It's never perfect since recording the top times of Michigan runners throughout 2006 involves checking some 30,000 age group categories; however, you can get some idea of who's consistent and who pulls off one or two great races.

-- ANNUAL CALENDAR 2007 - Pull-out this section for over 900 events listed for Michigan, Northwest Ohio, Northeast Indiana, Northeast Wisconsin and Southern Ontario.

-- SPRING SHOE REVIEW - Cregg Weinmann reviews 27 new shoes, recommends his favorites in lightweight, motion stabilizing and neutral categories, and chooses the best new shoe and best renovation of an existing shoe.

-- BEYOND THE CHIP - Two-time Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier and participant Laura Murphy discovers swimming.

-- RUNNING TAXES - Daniel G. Kelsey concludes his series: Running Birth, Running Death and . . .

-- GUNS AND ROSES IN THE HIMALAYAS - Boyne Highlands ski instructor, Helmut Linzbichler, takes to the mountains-- this time for a 100 mile stage race

-- ROCKING AND RUNNING THROUGH CLEVELAND: BOSTON OR BUST IN 54 SONGS - Anthony Targan tries to qualify for Boston at the 2006 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon.

-- COLUMNS, STORIES AND RACE COVERAGE by Editor, Scott Sullivan, Scott Hubbard, Tom Henderson, Riley McLincha, Dave Foley, Greg Janicki, Ron Marinucci and Doug McEwen.

__/ MCGREGOR, SHAY, ROSENDAHL NAMED TO USA WORLD CROSS COUNTRY TEAM -- "INDIANAPOLIS - USA Track & Field has named the members of the 2007 Team USA World Cross Country squad for the 35th IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa, Kenya on March 24.

__/ RUNNER'S WORLD BUYS RUNNING TIMES -- February 26: "Runner's World publisher Andrew Hersam announced this morning that Runner's World has bought Running Times, the second-oldest and largest regularly published national running magazine in the U.S, after RW. "It's part of our aim to be the ESPN of running," said Hersam. "We want Runner's World to have a presence everywhere our readers and advertisers are." Running Times and RunningTimes.com will continue to operate independently under publisher Carol Lassiter-Rice and editor in chief Jonathan Beverly. "Jonathan and his team of editors and writers are doing a great job serving the Running Times readers," said Runner's World editor in chief David Willey. "We want them to continue what they're doing, while the RW editors stay focused on Runner's World."

The alternate force in grass-roots runnIng: The Running Network, 29 regional and specialty running publications. Michigan Runner is one member. See the Running Network Website for calendar, results, regional race reports and daily news:
