__/ MARTIAN MARATHON AND HALF MARATHON,
SATURDAY, MARCH 27 - Running 26.2 miles is serious
business, but that doesn't mean that it cannot be goofy.
Look for green-painted faces, faux-antennae and other
nonstandard garb in this marathon, half-marathon and
Boston-Bound 20-Mile Training Run. All start at 8:00 am
from the Running Fit store on Haggerty, North of Six-Mile.
Proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Visit
http://www.martianmarathon.com for more information.

__/ FRUITPORT OLD FASHIONED DAYS RUN IS MAY 29 -
The 23rd annual Fruitport Old Fashioned Days Run will be
Saturday, May 29, 2004. The 10K and 5K runs begin at 9:30
am at the Fruitport High School, 6th & Beech St. The
measured loop course goes through scenic, hilly Fruitport
country side. The Fruitport Lions club sponsors the event in
conjunction with the Fruitport Old Fashioned Days. Fruitport
is in West Michigan, a few miles Southeast of Muskegon
and Northeast of Grand Haven. For more information call
(231) 865-6273. (The date of May 22 originally reported in
the Michigan Runner magazine is incorrect.)
__/ NOTES FROM MICHIGAN INDOOR TRACK SERIES
CHAMPIONSHIPS - Last weekend's high school indoor
track meet was competition at its purest. No divisions. The
indoor series is put on by MITS Girls' Director, Richard
Chenault, MITS Boys' Director, Mike Jurasek, sponsor and
advertising coordinator and announcer David Mitchell,
statistician Jeff Hollobaugh, awards announcer Scott
Hubbard, and dozens of volunteers. Their efforts made for
an afternoon of exciting racing and record-breaking
performances. You'll be able to see highlights of this meet
on Michigan Runner TV later on this month.
Maximum Output's Morgan Trent is fast, buff and blessed
with movie star good looks. His 21.79 broke a 200 meter
Indoor State Record which has held since 1993. He also
came from behind in the 4 x 200 meter relay to anchor
Maximum Output's winning effort in that event. No surprise
that he was named Boy's Track athlete of the meet.
The girls 1600 matched Nikki Bohnsack(North Kent) with
Nicole Bush (Wayland Track Club), but relatively unknown
Lisa Senakiewich (All World) left them both behind with a
scintillating Meet Record: 4:56.91. Lisa defines herself as a
middle distance runner, but she has a 1:03:06 finish at the
2003 Crim 10 mile to her credit, too. Look for this Davison
athlete to break the tape at local road races this summer.
Novi's coach Robert Smith's talented daughter, Samantha
Smith (Jackalopes), took top honors in the triple jump.
Samantha also placed in the 60 meter hurdles.
Stephan Shay (Northern Michigan Track Club) took the 3200
meter boys race with brother Ryan Shay and Coach/Dad Joe
Shay looking on. Stephan runs for Division 4 Central Lake
and is the current cross country champion for Division 4.
Liam Boylan-Pett (Streaking Dweebs) another division 4
runner took the boys 800 meter event in a meet record
1:55:08. For complete results see http://michtrack.org
__/ MICHIGAN COLLEGIANS WILL BE CONTENDERS AT

__/ 2004 MICHIGAN RUNNER RACE SERIES KICKS OFF
WITH CORKTOWN RACES SUNDAY
The first race of the 2004 Michigan Runner Race Series is

miler is the wild card in this year's series of eleven races.

Runner of the Year honors. For the complete list see

__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK - "Joggers can't stop jogging
anymore than smokers can stop smoking. If joggers were
told that jogging is bad for your health, they'd still keep
jogging."
-- Andy Rooney, Sixty Minutes, March 7, 2004.
