__/ MICHIGAN INDOOR TRACK SERIES CROWNS HIGH SCHOOL
CHAMPIONS
We send hearty congratulations to everyone who contributed to the just-
completed high school indoor track season. A club sport at the high
school level, the Michigan Indoor Track Series depends on the
contributed efforts of coaches, parents, college & university venues,
sponsors, officials, and the athletes themselves to create a very high
level of competition among more than 300 clubs statewide. The
championship meet at the University of Michigan Saturday was a classy
and entertaining event, due in no small part to the efforts of announcer
and organizer, David Mitchell; girls' director, Richard Chenault, boys'
director, Mike Jurasek; statistician, Jeff Hollobaugh and awards
announcer Scott Hubbard.
Vanessa Maher (Detroit Cheetah/Roseville) high jumped her way to #1
status in the US this year and a tie with the state indoor record 5' 10.5"
Hurdler Candice Davis (Ann Arbor Youth Track Club) broke the state
record with an 8:55 for 60 meters and is ranked #3 in the U.S. Morgan
Trent (Maximum Output) set a meet record in the 60 meter dash.
Jeanaie Edwards (Maximum Output) set a PR to win the 800 meter run
by 5 seconds. For complete results see http://michtrack.org. Michigan
Runner TV will show the meet beginning Friday, March 14. http://

__/ MICHIGAN HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES HEADED TO NIKE INDOOR
CHAMPIONSHIPS
Several of Michigan's best high school athletes will be competing at the
fifth annual Nike Indoor Championships at Landover, Maryland this
weekend. Candice Davis, with the third best 60 meter time in the nation,
is among the ones to watch according to the National Scholastic Sports
Foundation's Ricky Quintana. North Kent Running Club will be
contenders in their specialties, the 4 x 800 meter, 4 x mile, and distance
medley relays. Vanessa Maher will take her #1 national status onto the
national state. North Kent boys are among the top seeds in the 4 x mile
relay.
