__/ CHURCHILL'S HALF MARATHON, MONCLOVA, OHIO, SUNDAY, MARCH 19 - You know a race in its 39th year is doing something right. Churchill's Half Marathon is the 2nd oldest race in Ohio. Walt Churchill and the Toledo Road Runners present the 39th edition of the half marathon on Sunday. The race starts 1:00 pm at the Monclova Primary Community Center, 8115 Monclova Road, Monclova (near Toledo). The flat, fast course uses local roads and the Wabash Cannonball Trail. __/ SHILLELAGH 4 MILE RUN WALK, FLUSHING, SATURDAY, MARCH 18-- St. Patrick's races remind all of us why running is so much fun and the Shillelgh in Flushing sets itself apart in a couple of ways: each year participants get a unique shirt, sweatshirt or vest, the scenic race course has a really fast, downhill finish, and everyone can cheer on the kids in the "Leprechaun Lope" after the 4 mile. __/ WHO KNOWS GOOD ADULT RUNNING CAMPS? Michigan has several terrific running camps for high school kids, but what about adult running camps? We know of good camps run by Zap Fitness, Owen Anderson, Jeff Galloway, and Bill Dellinger in Blue Mountain, Florida; Lake Tahoe, Nevada; Western North Carolina; and Malibu, California. If you know of a good adult camp in Michigan or elsewhere, let us know.

__/ GAVIN THOMPSON TO COMMONWEALTH GAMES AND WORLD XC - Great Britain announced that Gavin Thompson (Crawley, Eng.,/ Eastern Michigan) will compete in World Cross Country 12K in Japan in April. Eastern Michigan's coach John Goodridge also reports-- by way of Bob Parks-- that Thompson will compete in the 10K at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia March 26. Thompson finished 3rd at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship in 2003, behind Dathan Ritzenhein and Ryan Hall.

We previously reported that Canadians (and University of Michigan) Kevin Sullivan, Nate Brannen, and Nicole Forrester as well as New Zealand's (and University of Michigan) Nick Willis are also competing in the Commonwealth Games.

__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES - ROAD RACING Michigan runners in training now for the Fifth Third River Bank Run 25K on May 13 will be interested in Haile Gebreselassie's new 25K world record:

"Sunday 12 March 2006, Alphen aan den Rijn, The Netherlands - Haile Gebrselassie clocked 1:11:37 for 25 kilometres today. The Ethiopian wonder man in the process bettered the World record of Kenyan Paul Kosgei who ran 1:12:45 on 9 May 2004 in Berlin, Germany, by 1:08 minutes."

The Netherlands event lengthened a half-marathon course for Geb's try at the record. I wish Geb would set his records on regular race courses rather than these special courses contrived for him. He set the half- marathon world record at PF Chang's Rock 'n Roll Arizona on a special course in January.
