__/ CLASSIC RACES THIS WEEKEND:
-- SATURDAY: HANSONS' RUNNING SHOP 5K RUN/WALK
AND 1 MILE FUN RUN.
Hansons' Running Shops host the 13th annual 5K
Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday in
Utica at the Flickinger Elementary School, 45400 Vanker
(North side of M-59 between old Van Dyke & M-53).
Proceeds help support the Hansons-Brooks Distance
Project. Its also a chance to meet some of the athletes who
will be volunteering (and giving others a chance to take
home the hardware.) Races begin at 10:00 am, Saturday,
March 27. http://hansons-running.com.
-- SUNDAY: AROUND THE BAY 30K, HAMILTON, ONTARIO
Sponsors of North America's oldest road race on Sunday,
March 28 expect close to 5,000 entrants for the 110-year-old
30K around Hamilton's natural harbor and as well as a 5K.
Walkers are welcome, but the two- and three- person relays
are already filled up. This race is the perfect distance for a
marathon long run and you can see the route around
Hamilton Harbor on an Ontario map.

-- SUNDAY: LASALLE BANK SHAMROCK SHUFFLE,
CHICAGO
The world's largest 8K offers world-class competition and
one of the sport's biggest post-race parties. If you prefer
shorter distances to marathons, the Shamrock Shuffle
is a great way to experience the terrific LaSalle Bank
amenities and attention to detail that they contribute to the
LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. The Shuffle turns 25 this
year and experiencing Chicago is another reason to run this
event on Sunday March 28. Race starts 10:00 am in Grant
Park; Post-race party begins at 11 am.

__/ RICHIE BRINKER IS 3RD AMOUNG TEAM USA AT
WORLD X-C CHAMPIONSHIPS
Richie Brinker (Hansons-Brooks/Central
Michigan/Sandusky, MI) ran a terrific race at the World Cross
Country Championships Men's 12K Race in Brussels
Belgium last weekend. The race splits tell the story for
Brinker who was in 91st at the end of the first two kilometer
loop, 68th after two laps, 63rd after three, 56th after four,
53rd after five and gained two more spots on the last lap to
finish 51st. Brinker's time of 38:36 was only eight seconds
behind American record holder Bob Kennedy who finished
44th and 27 seconds off of the top American finisher Abdi
Abdirahman in 34th.

__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"I had to race the way I train and that's the way I went out. If I
would've pushed it hard early I would've finished dead last.
My goal was to run an even pace, but I think I slowed down
about ten seconds per lap. This has been a helluva time.
I'm glad to be here. It was my goal in college to make a U.S.
team and it was a great experience once I got here."
-- Richie Brinker of Hansons-Brooks Olympic Distance
Project/Team USA Michigan, who picked his way through
the field in defiance of World Cross convention, was 51st in
38:36, World Cross Country Championships Men's 12K.
