__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: AROUND THE BAY ROAD RACE, HAMILTON, ONTARIO - We begin our video coverage of North America's oldest road race with the 5K. More than 1200 people participated in the 5K and another 5,600 took park in the 30K. In the coming days we'll be adding videos of the 30K, 30K start, 30K walk, relays, Expo and Pasta Dinner, Hamilton and interviews. The first Around the Bay took place in 1894, covering 19 miles 168 yards. Races were missed on a few dates during World War I and the Depression and one was cancelled due to road construction. The 30K has been run continuously since 1963 and has been a certified 30K distance since 1982. http://michiganrunner.tv/2006aroundthebay30K/

__/ MARTIAN MARATHON, HALF MARATHON AND METEOR 10K, SATURDAY, APRIL 1, DEARBORN HEIGHTS - The 6th annual Martian Marathon and Half Marathon has moved to a new location. All distances are out and back USATF certified courses. The Meteor 10K is a new addition and comes with $3,200 in prize money. Many elite athletes will be at the starting line for the 10K so this should be a fun one for spectators. You can also choose to do the 20 mile training run. Here's the weekend schedule:

Friday, March 31

7:00 pm - Pre-Race Dinner, Dearborn Heights Center

Saturday, April 1

7:30 am - Marathon early start

8:30 am - Marathon start, Hines and Outer Drive

__/ WILLIS, BRANNEN GO 1,2 IN COMMONWEALTH GAMES 1500 - At the 18th Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, two University of Michigan athletes upset the favorites in Saturday night's 1500. Nick Willis (Lower Hutt, New Zealand/Michigan/Reebok) won the gold in 3:38.49 and Nate Brannen (Cambridge, Ontario/Michigan/Reebok) took the silver in 3:39.20. Two-time Olympian Kevin Sullivan was also in the final and finished 7th (3:41.19)

In the 10,000 final, Gavin Thompson (England/Eastern Michigan) took 7th in 28:40.58.

__/ ING OTTAWA MARATHONER TO WIN A NEW CAR - Ottawa, ON - On Sunday May 28th, one lucky ING Ottawa Marathon or Half Marathon participant could cross the finish line and get a lot more than a medal. Organizers today announced that the key to a new 2006 Hyundai Accent, courtesy of Pathway Hyundai, would be awarded to a finisher for the first time in 32 years.

"This brings marathon running to a whole new level," says Susan Longbottom, president of the ING Ottawa Marathon. "Our goal has always been to offer more to runners and today, because of Pathway Hyundai, we're able to offer the biggest prize in Canadian marathon history ever offered to a non-elite runner!"

The winner of the new vehicle will be chosen on race day with the prize awarded at the finish line when he or she completes the race. Any runner crossing the finish line of the ING Ottawa Marathon or Half Marathon could be the winner. For more information see http://runottawa.ca

-- FLINT - The University of Michigan - Flint honored Bobby Crim with their Distinguished Alumni Award, part of the 2006 Alumni Leadership Awards, held in the very elegant Northbank Center. We enjoyed original Crim race-director Lois Craig's presentation and Bobby Crim's acceptance remarks. Deb Kiertzner, the current race director, presented Crim with a lifetime voucher for entry into Crim events. Michigan Runner TV will feature this event in the future.

-- ST. CLAIR - St. Clair is beautiful, historic community on Lake St. Clair a few miles south of Port Huron and site of the St. Clair Rotary Artful Dodger Riverview Run. This 5K is held in conjunction with the St. Clair Art Fair. Race date is Saturday, June 24. http://www.stclairchamber.com

-- SARNIA, ONTARIO - We had a chance to chat with George Heath, founder and race director of the Y International Bridge Race. The 10K race course begins in Port Huron, crosses the Blue Water Bridge and finishes in Sarnia, Ontario. -- LONDON, ONTARIO - We stopped by London, Ontario, site of May's Forest City Road Races on Sunday, May 14. This is a true festival of races, including a marathon, half-marathon, 10K, 5K, and 2.5K.
