The Downtown Runners and the Motor City Striders host the 24th annual Corktown races at Tiger Stadium at Michigan and Trumbull. The kids fun run begins at Noon; the 4 mile run and 1.5 mile walk begin at 12:30 pm on a new race course. The United Irish Societies present the St. Patrick's Parade itself beginning at 2:00 pm, continuing a tradition of nearly 50 years. __/ RITZ OUT OF WORLD CROSS -- Dathan Ritzenhein has scratched from the World Cross Country Championships in Japan, April 1 & 2. Ritz was named to the US 12K team, but withdrew because of illness. According to a posting on the Track and Field News message board, "Coach Brad Hudson says he's got an ongoing bacterial infection problem related to an earlier case of food poisoning." http://trackandfieldnew.com

__/ HASELY CRAWFORD INDUCTED INTO CARIBBEAN HALL OF FAME - Bob Parks alerted us that Hasely Crawford, the 4 time Olympian from Trinidad ('72, '76, '80, '84) has been inducted into the CAC Athletic Confederation Hall of Fame (Caribbean). Crawford won the Olympic gold medal in the 100 meter dash at Montreal in 1976. Crawford ran for Eastern Michigan and still holds records in the 60 m and 300 m events. Canadian Ed Whitlock turns 75 and there should be some major revisions to the world age-group records upcoming. For example last year at age 74 he ran 2:58:40 at the Rotterdam Marathon. The current 75+ record is 3:18:10 (with a 3:10:57 on an aided course)."

- USA INDOOR COMBINED EVENTS CHAMPIONSHIPS: NELSON WINS; TEREK SECOND "INDIANAPOLIS - Ryan Harlan and Lela Nelson won their respective men's and women's titles Sunday at the 2006 USA Indoor Combined Events Championships at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The 24-year-old defending champion, Harlan lead after the first day of competition and held off a late comeback on Sunday by 2004 Olympian Paul Terek to win his second consecutive men's title with 5,949 points."
